In other words, are you a digital native or digital immigrant? If you are wondering, what those terms mean; please, let me explain. Digital immigrants is a person born or brought up before the use of digital technology. Where as, digital natives are born or brought up during the age of digital technology. Digital natives are usually computer savvy and were introduced to computers and the internet at an early age, like myself. I’m a late eighty’s baby, and I would say I’m a digital native. By the time I started elementary school, we were doing learning games on the computers, and learning how to correctly type. I received my first desktop computer for Christmas in the third or fourth grade. My lovely Grandmother, is in her late seventies, I would say she is a digital immigrant. I enjoy keeping up with family and friends on popular sites; such as, SnapChat and Instagram. I don't use Facebook, it has been deactivated for six months now. Being a digital native, I feel very comfortable navigating a computer for school work or pleasure. I also use a computer and different applications at work. I currently work in the Operating Room, where I’m surrounded by awesome and advanced technology equipment. I don't believe being a digital native is better than digital immigrants. Nor do I believe digital immigrants are better than digital natives. I do believe it is important to try to stay up to date on what technology has to offer. Even though my grandmother didn't grow up with the latest and best technology, she still stays up to date with what is available. She may not have a Facebook or Snapchat account, but she can always join my in a cool filter. Also, she loves shopping

“Technology isn’t good or bad, it’s powerful. Take advantage of it and learn what it can do.” This quote was said by Sherry Turkle at the very end of the film and it really struck a cord with me. As shown by this documentary two generations as a whole are completely divided; we have digital natives who grew up around technology and know nothing else and on the other hand we have digital immigrants that had essentially a complete different lifestyle before technology. I think that logically it makes more sense that the older generation, or digital immigrants, are intimidated and afraid of the power that technology posses because even as digital natives we do not know the complete lengths that we can go yet.…

The word “immigrant” is often said with a negative connotation. This is a word I know all too well. I didn't know what an immigrant was until I was probably in the fourth grade when Mexican immigrants were all over the news. Illegal immigrants, the struggle for American citizenship, and the immigrants’ everlasting hope of achieving the American Dream was always part of the headline. I knew my parents weren’t from the United States, but they had adapted well to the country.…
