I still am using two different kinds of shots, but will have to switch to a pump within the next few years, which will also be a difficult transition. It took a great amount of time to get used to giving myself shots, and it was a very sudden change that my immediate family had to convert to. I will never forget when my brother stated, “It kills me to watch you hurt yourself to keep yourself healthy.” Having dealt with this, I constantly worry about those who have been recently diagnosed, and fear that I might pass down this disease to my children. Another hardship of this disease is introducing the concept when I first meet people. I do think about specializing in diabetes for a career, strictly to share my experiences and encourage others that Type 1 diabetes can not stop anyone from pursuing their lifelong dreams. Although I have grown and accepted diabetes as part of me, to this day, one of my biggest concerns is how people are going to respond when they are aware that I am I faced with this lifelong, horrifying
