Personal Narrative: Designing A Self-Propelled Car

Decent Essays
Over the course of my high school career I spent countless hours working in the Engineering Department of my school. At least half of the many hours that I spent in these classes I was working with a group to complete various projects and tasks assigned by our teacher. I can recall a project, in my Principles of Engineering class, where we had to design a self-propelled car. In this project my partner and I were presented with various design challenges; one of these such challenges stated that we could only use two wheels in our car or else we would be deducted points. After a brainstorming session my partner and I settled on my idea where we used two CDs as wheels and a mousetrap to provide the necessary momentum to move the vehicle forward.

On a beautiful clear morning of February the 19th, my mom picked me up from my class at the University of West Georgia, then we went to Waffle House to have a nice breakfast. We left from Waffle House, proceeding down Maple Street, and turned onto South Street and immediately onto Kenner Street. We then turned onto on the merging lane on South Park Street (US Hwy 27) heading south, we immediately halted to a full stop as vehicles moved from the middle lane into the merging lane in front of us, but at that time there were no vehicles behind us. As we waited to enter traffic, a car suddenly struck us from behind which caused the car to jerk violently forward, causing my mother’s chest to hit the steering wheel, and our heads and bodies to whip forward and then back.…

These were what I was thinking, my idea being having the big cd wheels in the back and because of how thin and their light weight they seemed as if they would work very well for not slowing it down, but of course they would have needed ballowns around them to add a little bit of traction. my idea for what the car was goig to be build as was I planned on hvaing 3 wheels, and have them on there like how you would have the wheels on a trycical, with a leaver at leastslightly larger then the block of wood. Although, even though I did my reserch the previous day I was still confused on many trhings and had and asked…

As a child, I remember my grandma reading me The Little Engine that Could every time I visited her house. Which may seem slightly odd that, that’s what I enjoyed as a kid. It quickly led to me writing in school. During kindergarten, we were all about writing our own books. For example, I ended that year with 22 books.…

Rube Goldberg and Beyond The objective of this essay is to ask a question that you would like to answer as part of the scholarship application. My question is “What is an example of a creative approach you took to accomplish a project you were assigned?” As a high school physics student in my junior year, I was placed on a team and tasked with building a Rube Goldberg machine that could move an object 20 feet. I started the process by watching several YouTube videos that demonstrated the basics of a Rube Goldberg machine (i.e., balls rolling, random ramps, many moving parts, etc.)…

I drove my first BMW when I was 20 years old; my boss at the time let me drive his E39 530i home. It was the most amazing thing I had ever drove and decided right then I must have a BMW once I made enough money to afford one. It was fast (to me), handled like it was on rails, quiet, comfortable, and everything a person who loves to drive could really ask for at the time; truly a “the ultimate driving…

One problem with my car is that it looks terrible. The once-shiny paint is now dull and bleached from road salt, there are patches of rust around the wheel wells and fenders. There is a dent in the passenger door that someone left while I was grocery shopping last year, and ever since another student hit my car in the school parking lot, the trunk latch has not worked, and I have had to tie it down with a cord. Furthermore, the interior of my car is no better than the exterior. The carpet is stained from years of carrying around two kids and a dog, and the upholstery is torn in several places.…

My first car was something that I greatly was looking forward to getting as a child and my interest in getting one grew, as the days got closer to my sixteenth birthday. The first car I owned was a Automatic Black 2004 Ford f-150 truck, which I discovered on a website called Craigslist. It was priced at five thousand nine hundred dollars with only eighty-four thousand miles on it, which in my case was great considering that I could only afford a seven thousand dollar car. The truck came with all manual locks and windows and also had a small amount of hail damage that could really only be seen at a certain angle. But even with reasonable price on the truck I still attempted to negotiate for an even lower price to further my luck.…

It all started in seventh grade. I had just finished after school choir practice and was riding my bike home when, as I was crossing the street a car came around the bend really fast and didn’t look around and it hit me and ran over my legs. I was so scared at first I thought they were broken because I could not feel them. The lady who had hit me called the ambulance and my parents, and then I was taken to the hospital. While at the hospital I had to get x-rays done to make sure that my legs were not broken, which they weren't.…
