Personal Narrative: Deer Hunting

It was a warm mid-september day. I was wearing jeans and a sweatshirt and I was ready to go deer hunting. Me and my dad ate breakfast and packed up all of our bags. This was the first time going deer hunting this year and I was very excited. We were going to go hunting behind my grandma’s house. We were planning to sit out in the woods for a long time, but that did not go as planned…

Crunch, Snap, Crunch! ‘’I hope I at least see a deer today’’ I thought to myself. Then I thought that even if I don’t get a deer I would still have a great time with my dad. ‘’I see it too, grab the gun’’ he said softly as I was already picking up the heavy muzzleloader.

My heart was pounding as loud as a train as I rested the gun on the blind, looking down the scope, carefully squeezing the trigger. Every second felt like a minute. BANG! The shot rang through the morning sky and into the surrounding trees. The deer stumbled its way to the treeline and then we lost sight of her. I was so excited I could barely stay in the blind. I wanted to run out right away to find the blood trail.

5 minutes later, me and my dad went out of the blind to go search for a blood trail. We went to where I shot the deer and found a big splat of blood on the nearest tall grass. There was a lot of blood and that usually indicates that it was a heart or lung shot. We followed the trail until the treeline and headed into the woods. I wondered how far we would have to follow the blood. Only about 5 feet into the woods was were the big doe lay.

A few minutes later my dad gutted the deer the deer and we hauled it back to the house. We hauled it back to the house. ‘’This thing is heavy’’ I thought. We got the deer up to the house and hung it on the tractor. We Sprayed the inside of the deer with water, so all of the blood would get washed away. The we kept it hanging so it could dry. I can’t believe I got a deer I thought again after all of the

Parents should explain that the deer killed will provide food for the family within their sacrifice and that the child should be thankful the deer crossed his or her path in order to do so.…

As I am crawling through the cornfield stubble on a cold December evening, with my bow clenched tightly in my right fist, I become more aware of the hard dirt stabbing into my knees as I inch my way towards the grove. As I lose the feeling of my face and my eyes begin to water, I only have one thing in mind, venison. I arrive to the grove, and make shelter behind a large oak. I scan the grove and my eyes land upon large antlers through the wood.…
