Personal Narrative: Deciding The Career For The Rest Of Your Life

Deciding the career you want to perform for the rest of your life is a stressful and unnerving one. At age eighteen we are forced to determine what we will do for the rest of our life. Personally this was not an easy decision for me, but with the help of my parents, peers, mentors, and contact through Bee Connection, I know I made the right decision picking accounting. By conversing with Breann Thompson I received the right advice about what to do in college so I can succeed like her. To begin, Breann works in the accounting department at Caterpillar since 2006. She has done almost everything you could think of in the accounting field including: worked with Legal Entity accounting. SOX internal controls, and Cost accounting. One could say she is an expert when it comes to accounting because she has really done it all. I contacted Breann back in September because I was interested in the accounting field, but I was still undecided. Going through this process of Bee Connection it helped me realize what I wanted in life, and a stepping stone of who I would become. Breann Thompson gave me great advice to not only help me with my future career and how to stand out professionally, but also how to survive college. The first advice that I was given was to get involved in as many organization I could. However, it is not as impactful if I am just a member than if I am in a leadership role.
