Death Valley The next morning we busted in the camper and found food And we needed water because we could barely even move in this hot,dry desert.
We all screamed in delight, but more than food we wanted water. After we broke In the 3 campers and we grabbed our food that smelled good and sat down. After that we walked over to one of the tables and we saw a hose. We all lined up and downed the water. It was extremely warm, but it was at least water and that was good for me.I could barely stand or keep my eyes open so I went to bed In the gritty sand.

Later that night some coyotes snuck into our campsite and we heard a scream. It was Gina! One of the coyotes was 5 inches away from Gina. The coyote striked. Gina

It is when we are asleep, we are given the power to let our minds wander. To lose all sense of reality and drift aimlessly through our subconscious thoughts and dreams. A time when all of our problems and struggles in the physical world slip away for a brief period of time. It is when we wake, we are forced to face the harsh reality of the world we live in. We all woke up at dawn and it was slightly miserable. Fifteen of us stayed in the craft shack until 3am the night before because the campers were officially gone and we knew that the next morning was our last. The melancholy air surrounded us until we arrived at breakfast to see a buffet of waffles, pancakes, eggs and all the other breakfast foods imaginable (including beans and toast for the all the unique british counselors). Together, we all sat and ate with cheer as we attempted to avoid the topic that was on everyone’s mind.…

Campfire Cookbook Review Camping is a wonderful past time. Fresh air, nature, sunshine, and nights around the fire are something everyone should try to experience. Whatever the images are that leap to mind when camping is mentioned, the one question we all ask is: “What are we going to eat?” While you can get by with GORP, trail mix, and “hot dog on a stick”; I say, “WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?” If it is all you have, absolutely, eat it. Then find civilization, because you aren't going to last long on just that.…

Two summers ago, I was a Leader-In-Training (LIT) at the United Methodist camp, Camp Lake Stephens. It is a 3 week camp experience that fifteen and sixteen year olds get to experience where you study spirituality, solve low challenge courses, and grow friendships. This was my second year being a part of this program, and both years were very eye opening. The program helped me grow in my leadership skills and my spirituality. We have one night where we pick a spot around camp, and we cookout and make our own food.…

Water abundantly and wildly flowed like the spirit of God across the trail from creeks, streams and springs due to the recent rain storms. However, the need for this life giving energy wasn't as required as my hike on Georgia's ruthless and steep terrain during the summer. On this trip, I only lugged around about a liter of water and I filtered it with a Sawyer mini filter (2 oz) instead of chemically treating with Aquamira chlorine dioxide drops. The taste was much better despite the water having no taste at all.…
