Improved Essays
I consider myself fortunate. I rarely get sick, I have never broken a bone, and I have never needed any kind of extensive medication. I consider myself fortunate not only because I have never had to deal with the trauma of having a serious medical emergency, but also because I have never truly had to deal with the healthcare system. Given the few short interactions I have had to have with my insurance company I know that having to deal with insurance is nothing but a headache. I hope that by the time I need to call on my insurance in a major way there will be fixes made to their system. I am not going to hold my breath. My mom has supported me by waiting tables in our small Northern California town. We always had enough to live on, but never

We figured that my niece would have to see the error of her ways, get help, take classes, go to group therapy sessions, find a job and conquer her case plan. We had it all planned out. My father, husband and I took turns taking my niece to her court dates and classes.…

My clinical experience so far has been quite interesting, because I learned basic clinical procedures and preventions that I know will benefit me as a nurse in the near future. In the Human Services field I am very passionate about working with people in the deaf culture. I am passionate about working with this population because I know American Sign Language and I feel a connection to the community. Learning ASL took a long time and allowed me to be engaged in many events in the deaf community. I believe people in this population are not given nearly as much attention or opportunities as they should be. The lack of equal access to education, jobs, and basic interactions that hearing people take for granted is not fair and puts this population at a disadvantage therefore making it important for people to want to work with this group of people.…

Patient 7539, please report to clinical area 3 for a checkup at 6:30am.…

As an immigrant, I have lived a financially difficult life when my father gambled away our home, savings, and the life we had in Iowa and decided to leave us in Georgia. Overnight my mother was granted custody of my two sisters and I and became a single parent/head of household after more than 12 years of being a stay at home mom. With minimal English and no work experience, my mom initially worked for less than minimum wage jobs, food catering company during the day; where her income was based on how much production/food she completed for the day, cleaning corporate companies at night, and even cleaning people’s homes on the weekends to provide for the family. With the joys of having us in her life, she had to sacrifice everything including getting only a few hours of sleep every night and working multiple…

My current health plan is an HMO that features a POS option. I receive health care through my father’s employer from an insurance rider that enables me coverage until I reach the age of 30. As their health plan features shared costs among members, the premium for adding the rider to the group policy is shared by all participants. Our current health insurance plan is through CareConnect, which is a division of Northshore LIJ, which essentially enables me to access all Northwell Health hospitals and outpatient facilities within the health network. Through the POS, I can opt for care outside of my network, though the process requires referrals and features higher premiums.…

The sickness that I live with is one that some would find excessively appalling, making it impossible to talk about; so I kept it to a whisper.
