Personal Narrative-Day Two On The RMS Empress Of China

Decent Essays
Day two on the RMS Empress of China. I’m cramped into a small room with many people. The smell is horrendous, it is as if we are cattle. Regardless, for 122 yuan I am on my way to Canada. I find it funny that I leave my home in China to leave the flooding, but now I am in the middle of water! I am coming to Canada to live with my Husband. It has been 20 years since I’ve last seen him. I miss him greatly. I would have come to see him sooner, but the head tax set out by the Canadian government is just too much money! I simply do not have 250 yuan laying around, not to mention an additional 122 for the boat. I’ve chosen to come now because I have found a way around the head tax. I, Lin Cheng, am coming to Canada as a ‘student.’ It’s brilliant!

Have you ever stopped caring so much that whatever happens, happens? I remember the time I had gotten in trouble by my mom because I had walked home from school. I didn’t like it, but then again I started not to care either.…

Shaking The Captain’s Hand It was the middle of June, and I had just taken my CDA (Child Development Associates) exam. This exam was so important to me because it meant moving up to a higher position on my job as childcare professional. I had to work the next day, so I did not have time to even think about the test results. I was called to the office to speak with my childcare trainer. I thought she had observed me doing something wrong in the classroom, because that is usually the case when you are called to the training office.…

Almost four years ago, I entered Clackamas High School as a confused, shy, awkward freshman. Soon after entering the hallways of this school, I was assigned to a Freshman Assurance group and met with the group leaders. My group leaders were vivacious seniors, who were condescending and gave very little advice on high school. I felt a little intimidated by them, and the activities that they led made most of the freshmen in our group uncomfortable. They told us about their craziest stories and about the teachers who weren't of the most pleasant experience.…

Sit back, buckle up, and get ready to scream because I love roller coasters. My family and I go to Cedar Point about every month in the summer, and my dad and I go and ride everything in the park. It is just so fun! The one thing I really like about roller coasters is that there are little rides for the youth kids also. My least favorite thing is when I am not tall enough to enjoy a ride, which doesn’t really occur anymore.…

Remember Think of it this way; if you were going to fight in the war, leaving your mom and dad in the safety of their home, then you end up standing in the middle of the battlefield. Turning into one of the many dead bodies that are all over the place. Your life flashes before your eyes as you see a fast, terrifying bullet coming right at you, then time stops. And you’re dead as well. Only a day or two passes before your parents get the news that their son/daughter will not be coming home.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…
