Personal Narrative: Dating And Skipping School

Improved Essays
Going back to 3 years ago, I was in my second semester of 9th grade. I would see girls with boyfriends wishing I had that. However, my parents always warn me about dating and how education comes first before boyfriend. Also, they told me, “Boyfriends are everywhere; you will meet plenty of them one day.” In February, I did something forgettable and hurtful, I went behind my parents back dating and skipping school. My first date made me frighten, jovial and was distinctive.
Hearing the alarm clock waking me up on a pleasant Thursday morning. Half-asleep, I walked to the bathroom doing my morning routine. As I draped my phone and bag pack, I walked downstairs to meet my dad. My dad had made me my favorite green banana porridge for breakfast.

The hardest thing I’ve ever went through? Let me take you back to almost three years ago to a very cold Thursday morning in January. I was sitting in history class when suddenly something very strange happened; the announcement speakers came on. To most people it would seem like it was a very typical day to day event to listen to announcements; but at my school announcements were rarely ever said. My classroom got completely silent; to the point where you could have heard a pin drop.…

The transition from High School can often times be very frustrating for students. L. Lennie Irvin opened my eyes to one of the bad habits I picked up on in High school. The habit of straying from the topic or theme could cause me to fail not only papers in English but my other courses as well. I personally had a hard time with English my first semester of college. In High school I was always at the top of my class and my teachers would tell me how great of a writer I was.…

Anxiety was my first foe. During the beginning of the tenth grade, I had set high expectations for myself and it began to affect my life greatly For instance, after finishing the test, I would think about just one specific question that I thought I completed wrong.…

The best scenario in my opinion is to do the best job that you can that way you release some of the pressure from your self because you were instructed to do so. I believe that hardest thing for me is finish things it could be simple or difficult but for whatever reason I don’t finish well. Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…

I was sixteen years old and on the verge of becoming just another high school dropout. My life had become overwhelmingly complicated due to an initial depression, which grew stronger as I gave up on much of what was important for me at the time. This downward spiral had to end. Finally, I withdrew from high school halfway through my sophomore year, but not before voluntarily choosing to attend a military school 600 miles away from home. A free program designed for dropouts and sponsored by the national guard, this was a place where I could recover all of my high school credits and set myself up for success.…

It was the end of third grade and all of my friends and I were talking about who we wanted as a teacher the next year. Everyone wanted Mrs. Graham or Mrs. Friend because they were considered the “nicer” teachers. I didn’t really care who I had as long as they didn’t yell very much because it always scared me when they did that. I was the kid who always got upset when I saw that the teachers were yelling or mad at someone. My mom had told me that she didn’t request any certain teacher for me to have so it was going to be a surprise the next year when I found out.…

To be honest, I hate school with a passion, yet I love learning as much as living. As a child, schooling created a feeling of loneliness and sadness that echoed throughout my life, even now. I didn’t meet the standard levels for literacy and was separated from my classmates in elementary school for special reading and writing classes. Also the lack of freedom to say and move the way I wished to, and the rebellion that stemmed out of me in middle school due to these limitations. Finally, the conforming in high school to appease my mother, friends that drove me over the edge, yet even now I feel the same bull-crap in college.…
