As I walked into the empty room next to Mrs. Moreland’s class, I saw sitting on the far side, John, Peter, and Francisco. They were waiting to begin my tryout for Triple Take. Once I stepped into the room, all my courage swam away scared off by a shark of fear. All the courageous comments I had told myself, and all the high hopes I had built up over the last two weeks just disappeared. Having to re-gather my full determination the best that I could, my feet carried to the main point of the room; It was a place they were using as a staging area. Taking a deep breath I faced the them. Just standing there made me sweat like a pig. I was shaken badly my bones would rattle. After I took one long deep, slow breath, I handed my phone to Peter and had him deal with the speakers. A few moments later, Peter had finished and they were all ready for my performance. I had come too far and put too much into this to stop now. With everything I had left within me, I was ready to dance. …show more content…
I wish to be in the spotlight and make things happen. It also offers an especially unique way to prove my skills to myself and be part of a club at the same time. One day there was an event during lunch period for club sign-ups. I went to the event with a couple of my school friends to try out a couple clubs for the year. Since it was my first year at Mountain View and I needed to improve my social skills, this was a perfect opportunity. I went to the event. As I glanced around and checked out a few clubs, I saw a particular club that caught and held my eye. The name of the club was called “Triple Take”. I approached one of the guys from the club stand and asked him what’s it all about?. He stated it was a dance club for both experienced or inexperienced students to have fun. I signed up for Triple Take right on the spot. I remember being extremely

Sammy Lewandowski This memorable weekend will begin with dancing for 7 hours of dance tryouts for the Foley Falconette dance team. After I’m so exhausted from dancing with my sister, I will be picked up from the school and brought home to join my family and friends in shearing our 9 unique fluffy alpacas. After we are done, they almost look like an over-sized poodles. When I walk into the barn all I will hear are the screeches of terrified alpacas. They are always stressful when this time of year comes around.…

I have seen the first one you mention though not the second--thank you. Unfortunately the clip of excerpts is missing the solo I remember--where the movement seemed to flow through her body like a force of nature--it was as if she became a rippling stream. Sounds absurd, but that's what it looked like to me! Just a side note about youtube and video: I live far from the centers of the ballet world and depend on youtube for much of my ballet watching these days--I have even formed some provisional opinions, likes and dislikes, based on youtube videos.…

Recently, I had the pleasure of seeing the performance The Future's So Bright performed beautifully by the Castilleja Dance Department and Production Workshop at Castilleja Private School. At first glance, this performance space looked like an average stage in a small auditorium, yet then the lights dimmed and it turned into a bright, musical, spectacular performance of dance. Prior to the actual dance, the school put together a well written slide show to help the audience visualize the issue of focus, which was to help create a better learning environment in east Palo Alto. After this was shown a wonderful ensemble of dancers proceeded onto the stage. The upbeat music started playing and all the dancers began to carry out many exciting and…

Swerving around a mass sea of students while quickly glancing at my schedule and the classrooms around me, I was a new student trying to find my classes at the large campus of Neuqua Valley High School. Even though it was my junior year, I was a new student after transferring schools and was unfamiliar with the campus and with many of the students there, until I found out about a hip-hop/breakdancing club called Urban Arts Club (UAC). Since I was ten years old, I have always been interested in learning how to breakdance, but I was not able to learn when I lived in Vietnam. After discovering UAC, I anxiously joined the club to learn how to breakdance and to try and become acquainted with the students of the club. As a new member of UAC, I learned the fundamentals of breakdancing, began practicing with the other members, and helped out the current and new members in order…

Being a member of numerous clubs has helped me learn a valuable lesson. Relationships are important, and the way I express myself defines who I am within the eyes of another. For example, I joined History Club to ensure that my professor would know my name. I expressed myself as a student who cared about her grade. Though this was the underlying…

When I first came to class, it was truly frightening getting in front of people to move my body like I have never moved it before. Even the dance move to the number of syllables to our names was way scarier than it should have been. The amount of growth that I have personally made, and that everyone else has made is tremendous. Moving was much harder, much less fluid than it was at the end of the semester. The more and more that we practiced movements, such as the partner touch and blind movement exercise.…

By participating in these clubs, I am doing way more than listing a club I joined for a college application to show the type of person I am. I am building experiences, learning different sides of myself (finding what I like), building character, and demonstrating teamwork. To elaborate, the Speech/ Debate team is a perfect demonstration of what I am implicating when I say ‘clubs build character.' This club helps you appreciate different points of views and how to apprehend how others might think compared to you, how bland their point of view can be or how ingenious and respectable their opinion seems to you. By arguing (constructively), you learn over time that not everyone might share your perspective, and how you, in reality are a teeny-tiny ant compared to the world.…

In the Cognitive Dissonance Experiment conducted by Leon Festinger, the researchers were interested in how we rationalize to ourselves about why we think and behave certain ways. Participants were students enrolled in a certain course at Stanford University. Based off of this factor and the time period, we can assume that they were mostly of similar background (white and middle class). Once in the lab, they were told that the experiment was about how expectations affect the experience of something. There were 2 groups in every round of the experiment.…

As I stepped into my EOP (Educational Opportunity Program) counselor’s office, I was scared, this was my first official school related appointment on campus. One of the recurring message throughout this first appointment was, to become involved and join a club. Consequently, during Discoverfest, I did not find any clubs that sparked my interest. The following week, one of my floormates said he was going to the Folklorico club rehearsal and I should join him. After persistent begging, I decided to go, and I am so happy I did.…

Before a performance, my friends and I would be very superstitious. Often, we'd each have a small procedure we'd go through to calm our restlessness. I still remember the aroma of oranges and lemons that my friend, Mya, scented her pointe shoes with. She would put these miniature cushions in her shoes for every recital because the fragrance would always calm her nerves, and she "abhors the stench of smelly feet" so that's another reason there. Mine, while it wasn't as lavishing, it did its justice.…

As stated before in our first lecture, dance is a living and fleeting art form. I believe that dance is a living art form because it is a three-dimensional picture to art. What I mean by this is that, art is normally seen on walls or as sculptures, but dance is an amazing opportunity to view art while in movement. If you are anything like me, when I look at a painting of two people or many, I always wonder what it would be like to see them actually dancing, singing, or even laughing. By watching dance, it is my living art form.…

My First Dance Competition The first time I performed at a dance competition was a very exciting and memorable moment for me. I was six years old and insanely nervous. Typically the nerves hit me while I wait in the wing of the stage for my name to be called, but this time it began the moment I woke up in the morning. I remember having to wake up at about six in the morning in order to have time to get ready and be at the convention center in Wichita when the doors opened at 7:30 a.m.…
