Personal Narrative: Dairl Reece

There are a lot of words that come to my mind when I hear the name "Dairl Reece." Emotions flood my brain as I consider all aspects of this one man. My grandpa is cantankerous, precise, and hard to love at times. However, he is loving, fun, and definitely follows the will of God. Dairl, or McKinley, is an average sized man. He is about 5' 10" and has a gut from being well fed. His body is worn from long years of hard work but it does not hinder him from an active lifestyle. He has little, yet well kept facial hair that makes up for the absence of it on his head. Dairl is constantly joking with everyone he encounters and has a grim smirk and giggle that follows. Even though he is tough, his personality is portrayed through many valuable memories. …show more content…
As a father he expected his children to be home at curfew. If they arrived a minute later they were locked out for the night. He was also picky when it came to cleaning. After the kids cleaned, if he could run his finger on a surface and find dust or it was not to his expectations, he would make them redo the whole procedure again. Even in his older age he is strict. At a Christmas breakfast I had to eat out in the cold, as snow covered the ground, because he would not allow my puppy in his house. The temperature was so low that it caused me to see my breath as I murmured quietly in between the frequent shivers. Dairl is very set in his standards; it is his way or the highway. However, he does have a good …show more content…
He is very humble and makes sure that everything he does goes to the glory of God. Before our annual Christmas dinners, he reads the Christmas story aloud to the whole family. He is constantly praying or thanking God for what He has done. He has been the music director at his church for as long as I can remember and used to help with the church youth group when my dad was a teenager. Sure he has his goofy moments, but he takes pride in his faith and ensures that we understand why. My grandpa relates everything we achieve, lose, and experience to God and His love for us. Dairl is very wise and has become an amazing role model for me spiritually and in my daily

My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. I improved greatly in athletics and my academic career.…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…

My father is someone who I respect more than anybody else. He has given up so much for me and my two siblings so that we could be happy even at the expense of his own happiness. He has been the one to bring the family back together in the hardest of times even when others were against him and it was not his place. He inspired us to work hard so that we could succeed and he raised three children while working from home while he had a job that would not usually allow that but he made it happen.…
