My head lowered in shame and embarrassment; I dutifully recounted the incident which resulted in me being cramped in this small office. The days began to blur as I repeatedly gave the same explanation, was given the same advice, while staring at the same toy soldiers on the same old, wooden desk, going back and giving my parents the same account of what had happened. My violent anxiety had plagued me, exiling me from my own mind, and causing me to lose control of my everyday life. I knew nothing would be resolved if I kept the futile words of the child psychologist in my head, “Don’t worry, it’ll only trigger a cycle of anxiety. I reprogrammed my psyche, changing my mind from “What will happen to me?” to “What can I do to progress from here?” I no longer thought of myself as the vulnerable child who was condemned for his illness but rather the child who learned to work his way out of his degrading

I’ve always been the type of person who would want better, but never thought to sit and see where I’m at in life and while going through this stage in life I’ve lost my way of planning long-term and short-term goals. It has been an exhausting road because I didn’t know how to stop and think about what I was doing at the time and how I could get better. I had always worked and paid bills, never stop for a second to think about life and where I want to be. Grit is to live life like a marathon not a sprint as Professor Ducksworth stated and I’m glad to know instead of continuing to be hard on…

I heard it for the first time in the short video I watched, “Angela Lee Duckworth: The key to success? Grit”. Every culture has its own special ways to encourage the individual how to be a determined and not to give up when facing a hardship, and this short video is talking about the same thing. So, I searched the word GRIT in the internet. I found that, for years, many researchers had spent a great deal of their life researching and discussing this concept, GRIT.…

During a question and answer session I asked if it was possible to run cross country and play basketball, and in a loud voice that went across the gym, a kid said “Why ask you’re too fat to play sports” and the whole gym burst into laughter. This is how my introduction to middle school officially began. As one could imagine the pain and humiliation that went along with my torture, but because I suffer from generalized anxiety disorder my problems were exemplified. I spent the next few weeks listening to everyone talk about me, repeat the story and laugh.…

Being told how amazing and special we are has been written in our brains since the day we were born by our parents. Although this perception of ourselves may lead to less anxiety or depression, it can also cause many different problems with our relationships with other people. One example from my own personal life comes to mind, which is when I was beginning to date at the age of only 13 years old, when I still dated females. This romantic and star-crossed lover relationship only lasted about 1 week. It ended dramatically with her telling me that I was rude and mean, slapping me, and storming off.…

If you were to ask me what the scariest part about having anxiety is, my answer to you would be how little is known about it. Mental health is such a feared thing to talk about, yet talking and spreading awareness is the only way to end the stigma. I have severe “performance anxiety” as my doctor called it, it 's no longer an everyday thing but for a long time it was, it started as being anxious before soccer games or track meets, I mean, nerves is something all athletes face, it 's part of the sport, but something about the way my stomach turned and the way my cereal repulsed me the morning of a big game, that made me realize it was a lot more than just a little pre-game stress. It took me a long time to realize; realize that something was wrong. It was hard to learn how to cope and how to try and get others to understand.…
