Personal Narrative: Curley's Pet Shop

Too small, too much slobber, is that a rat or a dog? Let’s start at the point I needed a dog. See I don’t have what you call, friends and well I’m tall and awkward. The one thing I’m good at is running (most of the time). All in all was lonely, I needed a friend, a dog. The pet store was all across town. I needed to get there without running into Ryder and his gang. They are “The Top Cat” at least that's what the girls say. Running home will show me what type of dog i had gotten. I needed a dog that could run, far. He needed to be tough and mean, or something like that. He needed to be a good friend as well. I really needed this dog. As I opened the door I got a large whiff of dog. That was the thing I dreaded about a dog. I wasn't completely …show more content…
You could hear and smell the dogs but they were nowhere to be seen. I followed him into the door, then i noticed how small the shop had been it was one floor with a large space where they kept food and toys and the shop pet, lady, a weird little parrot. She didn't talk much but when she did I never understood. On the left a room that could have been a kitchen at one time but is used as a break room. There was an out house if you really needed to, you know, go. On the right of the large room was the room I was being lead to, with the puppies. The room was fairly big with concrete like the rest of the shop. It was cleaner than i had expected the walls white without a single mark on it. The crate was in the middle of the room and to the left a large shelf. It held dog food, water and, a large amount of doggie bags. “Look and play with them as much as you want just don't let them out of the cage.” He almost made me jump. I do that alot, start thinking and thinking and then I’m completely in my own world finaly some one will talk to me or touch me and every once and awhile I’ll jump but I’ve gotten used to it so it doesn't usually …show more content…
Thankfully Curly’s has a policy that if you do not have a collar and leash they will give you one. I decided that I’ll give, well whatever I decide to name him leftovers. We never eat them so why not. We walked to the back room to grab him. “First dog?” he asked “Yeah” I said nervously for some odd reason “Here” he handed me a blue pamphlet from the container on the wall, i had not noticed this. It read DOGS 101 “Thanks” I said as he picked up the dog. He wasn't very big only halfway to my knees which on normal non 6”11 people a quarter to the knee but still small. I pushed the door, the door rang, just like before. We went down the three blue and yellow steps. I started stretching so I didn't pull anything but as I reached towards the cloudless sky I felt a rough and kinda ticklish sensation that when it stopped it felt colder than anything else on my body. He had licked me, what was he who was he? I liked him and he liked me it was good. D it started with a

Last but not least the daughter who had a short interaction in the story but because of her there was a whole story to even read. If the story took place in a different place in a different setting I don’t think the father would’ve behaved the same way. Just being at his home where he can imagine where his kids would be running around with sparky probably played in the father’s head continuously. He went the extra mile for the dog that he hates because of his children.…

George Saunders’ “Puppy” and Toni Morrison’s “Recitatif” tell of two different stories with different characters in presumably different time periods. Both authors have drastically different backgrounds that bring them to these tales. However, their works of literature are more comparable than one would initially think. From the perspective of the reader, the intent of Puppy was to stress that there is often more to something than meets the eye and that because of this, we tend to want for things that we do not really understand. The families that appear in this story are perceived differently on the surface than they actually are underneath everything.…
