The race was exciting, the rush was contagious, I couldn't help but to glare at the screen of the television set. The race was coming to a close, then I witnessed the most devastating event any athlete could bear in their professional…
I Corinthians 9:24 states, “Do you not know that those who run a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you obtain it”. This Bible verse has had significant meaning to me particularly while running track in high school. Track is a sport that requires hard work, determination, speed, focus, and self-discipline.…
I decided to take action: every day at practice I would try to encourage all of my teammates, despite the different disciplines, even if it was just a simple “good job, man!”, or “keep it up!”. For the warm up each day, I would run with some of the slower people accordingly heartening them, making sure they didn’t feel inadequate compared to track runners who were faster. Little by little, other members of my team replicated my action. Consequently, by the middle of the season, everyone inspirited one another and supported each other. The focus of our pre-meet speeches, which reinforced this newfound reassurance, was family.…
It was summer and it was time for football in East Hall. That means we practiced 3 days a week, 100 push ups a night, 2 hour practices, helmets never came off and we were only 9 year olds. We were almost undefeated the previous year and we want be undefeated that year. So we had to be disciplined, work hard and do what coaches told us to do. We were determined to win the Hall County Football Championship, since Flowery Branch won it the previous year we wanted to beat them so bad.…
I once thought I couldn’t believe in myself! I felt as if I were nothing but a sheet of glass that was completely useless. When there were gloomy days, I felt like broken glass that was scattered all over the ground and I wouldn’t be fixable. So I thought if I joined a sport, I would then, have no choice but to believe that I can do more and accomplish more, and be better than whom I was! When I was little I loved to run…
Chris Linde stated “My job as an athletic trainer is to prevent injuries as much as possible. I also support with strengthening and conditioning, guidance in nutrition and sleeping, and I also make sure the playing area is safe”. When he was young, he always adored being around the athletic trainer. Subsequently being pushed to his limits and fighting through the pain, there was always someone to care for his aches, and pains. She gave him opinions on what to do when he was alone to prevent fatigue, and serious injuries that would prevent him from playing to his fullest potential or limit him from achieving his goals.…
During track season, my seventh grade basketball coach thought that it would be a great idea if I joined the track team and competed in the 400 meter event. I attended every practice and I was motivated and convinced that I could win first place. However, on the first track meet that I attended, I was in last place. I was so far behind that the girl in first place passed me up.…
I could barely catch my breath to tell someone. Finally, the words made it through my lips and two of my friends graciously carried me across campus to the infirmary, which happened to be closed. Could this day get any worse?? As they laid me down under a tree, I slowly began to regain my breath, coloring, and consciousness. This puzzled me because what I thought to be an asthma attack actually turned out to be a panic attack.…
I was so happy I was near the front of the line because I wanted to stand out and make them remember me. While sitting there group after group kept going in it was getting close to my turn. While lined up behind these huge gray doors waiting for the judges to call us in, I didn’t think I could make it. My knees started shaking and I felt the butterflies in my stomach going crazy. Stepping on that blue mat I thought I had forgot what I had learned that week to make the team.…
At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…
My sophomore year of high school, I received an award for Most Improved in cross country. That day I felt on top of the world. As a matter of fact, I felt on top of the world that entire season. I was never athletic, as a matter of fact, before joining Track the year before, I had never ran more than three feet in my entire life. The first day of cross country was an awful start.…
I walked into that gym on the first day of practice after 10 years of soccer. I was nervous and didn’t know anyone. This was all brand new to me. I thought I was always going to stick with soccer. Cheerleading was something I never thought I would be interested in but decided to give it a try.…
The short story “The Champ” written by T.C. Boyle is about a young man that has been the champion and set multiple records. As strange as competitive eating may sound there are people that actually enjoy watching and/ or be apart of the contest. In “ The Champ” Boyle gives the reader an insight from the main character’s perspective. The story is about Angelo D., the main character, and how he starts the short story off as the champ. Although he begins as the champ with a variety of records set, Kid Gullet (Angelo’s challenger) is swiftly coming to snatch the crown from Angelo.…
As a student athlete who moved multiple times, I built many relationships with my teachers and coaches. I will always remember the teachers and coaches that had a positive impact on my life, whether it was in second grade or my senior year of high school. When I entered college, I contemplated majoring in Education and going straight into teaching because it was of serious interest to me. However, I chose to go another route with my major. After working for a few years in another field, I decided that it was time to strive for a profession that enthused me.…
I have never taken interest in track and field. Never in my mind have i thought that i would be joining track and field on my junior year. But when feeling the wind it’s like if you had wings. When running your surrounded by air the only things you hear are “WHOoooooo” of a melody.…
