A few years ago when I wasn’t sure what sport to pursue, my father introduced me to CrossFit. CrossFit is a form of physical training that uses intense cardiovascular movements blended with Olympic weightlifting maneuvers for a total body work out. CrossFit has been used by corporations, professional sports teams, police officers, firefighters, and the Marine Corps as part of their training. It has helped me improve more than just physical strength and endurance; it has taught me discipline and mental strength. By learning how to push myself through grueling exercises, I have learned how to stay focused. This training is also reflected in my school work. Through my new form of training, I find myself much happier with little to no anger and better self-discipline. About six years ago, my sister and I lost contact with our mother; in other words, she abandoned us. When my mother left, so did my stepfather and step grandparents who I viewed as blood relatives and whom I loved from the bottom of my heart. For the first couple years, living with my father and stepmother, I struggled. I argued with them, and I was a troubled and frustrated child. Losing my mother and second family may have turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to me. After this tragic experience, I turned anger and hatred into determination and hard work.
