I remember my 10 year old self sitting in the stands at the very first Roosevelt Rough Rider football game of the 2007-2008 season, and half-time had just began. My sister was in the marching band so I sat there scanning the field for her, but couldn’t find her. I stood up and looked one more time until I saw her, standing tall on top of the drum major podium, calling the band to attention and putting her hands in position to begin conducting the band. I watched her, in awe of how her hands moved as they hit every beat, giving the band the tempo to the music.…

Competition days are long and tiring, but always full of excitement. There is a process as to how the day will go depending on when we perform, where we have to travel, and many other aspects. Most of them start out the same way and go in a similar order every time, but there are always surprises that come along the way during these days. As the day starts on a competition Saturday, the Worthington Kilbourne Marching Band arrives normally in the late morning or early afternoon.…

"This life is a precious gift." The Lonely Island Band captures the essence of life for the youthful and daring or the aging and reckless. I enjoy being around family and friends. I care about music, television, and movies; sometimes I like to look for a deep message that most people overlook. I love the human will to survive when pushed to the limits; everyone has an instinct to survive.…

Cool Korn As I sat down with one of the coaches, who is the defensive backs coach on the Tennessee State University (TSU) football staff, I noticed how Coach Korn reminded me of myself. My interviewee was Coach Korn, since I play offensive line, he is not one of my coaches. Coach Korn and I have had our occasional hi and bye’s, but until this interview I knew not much of him. I noticed a few things, one being that he has been interviewed before because when we sat down he showed no signs of nervousness, second is that he kept his hood on throughout the entire interview, and third was that Coach Korn did not speak with a loud voice but at the same time I understood his…

Music has played a gigantic role in defining who I am. When I was little I was always involved in music. Even if it was not me making the music, I was always bopping my head along or tapping my foot to the beat of the music. My parents were surprised to find out that I was the child that was fascinated by the marching band walking in the parade. I knew by a young age that I wanted to be in that band.…

These were on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. The album as a whole I will rank at the end after presenting all my points. Country music it's beautiful when sung right and no it's not just about cheating on your wife and drinking beer. The moment I decided to join the band was in elementary school when our class went to watch the middle school band play their Christmas concert. Although several of my friends had told me that classical music was dull and only useful for putting others to sleep, I loved listening to it. I would try to figure out what instruments were played and their individual part. I was glad to be able to listen to a live band without the need of speakers or headphones.…

My uncle had owned two clarinets and said that he could give me one of them, so I decided to play the clarinet. The first piece I played in the band was “Can’t take my eyes off from you”, a song sang by Franky Valli. I still can recall the excitement when I first joined rehearsal. I was so impressed and got a tingle. I felt that I finally found what I can be enthusiastic about, and playing in the band became my priority.…
