Lost in the Wood

It was a beautiful sunny day with white clouds sailing in the blue sky. I kept walking,

enjoying the breeze blowing in my face. Lost in my thoughts, I suddenly realized it was now

very dark and I was lost in a forest so deep where I could not even see the stars. So there I stood,

not knowing about my surroundings in a strange place I had never been before. Being in a dark

forest by myself with nothing but a flashlight and a pocket knife, I had to do whatever it took to

survive.

I knew the first thing I had to do was to find a shelter, a safe place from any hungry

animals. Next, I would need to find a food source rich enough to last until I could find a way out

of this forest, so I started looking for a perfect

of the big tree behind my tent. The wolf rushed my way, but with me being high on the tree he

couldn’t reach me. I stayed up there for most of the night, and left shortly before day break.

With a long night behind me, I decided to relax and take a short nap before I started my

second day lost in the woods on my own. After resting, I got up and tried to catch some more

fish again, but I couldn’t catch any because they were gone. I was starving. I had a couple of the

fruits I picked the other night and ate them. After eating and still hungry, I set out to look for

some food. I found an injured deer unable to move. I thought to myself, this would give me a lot

of meat to survive, plus I could use the hide from it as a cover during the cold and chilly nights.

With the deer still alive suffering from his injury, I had to put it out of its misery. I choked him to

death. I don’t know how long that poor thing was sitting there suffering, but I looked at it like a

mercy killing. The fresh meet from the deer was just what I needed to feed myself for a couple of

days. With having the deer meet slaughtered, I began to scatter the rest of the deer’s body in

After getting a rid of the rest of the deer’s body, I took

the hide and the meat back to my tent. After cooking and eating the meet, I relaxed for a while

and started day dreaming in my tent.

With the second day coming to an end, and the sun setting in the distance, I decided to

build a signal fire up, hoping it would be seen by someone. Then I slept hoping for someone to

find me. While sleeping I heard a loud noise, louder than the howl from the wolf. As I was

looking around to see what it might be, I could see a helicopter coming my way. I quickly threw

more leaves on my fire to boost the brightness, so they could see me. A light quickly shined on

me. I had been found. Tear-filled my eyes because I knew soon I would be back home.

While this had been a challenging adventure, it’s the one I will hold dear to my heart. I

will never be able to fully describe how this experience changed my life. I guess in a way it

showed me how people lived many centuries ago and taught me not to take things for granted. I

still use my deer skin blanket to this day. It reminds the time I spent alone with myself in the

nature. Being lost in the woods may seem like a nightmare to some people, as it was for me

Day 1: The Blake forest is une of the most beautiful things I've seen. My friends and I were camping for the winter break before entering college, we thought we were going to have fun but that was our mistake. In mid October early in the morning the day was crisp and chill. The sun was just burning the morning fog off of the lakes cool waters. The dew on the grass and trees was glistening from the sunlight and the bird were singing their songs of jubilee . The entire woods were peaceful and still, and the sunrise was magnificent. During this moment I realized how beautiful nature is when the outside world is a distant memory, and all we need to do is take advantage of the little things life gives us and never stress the big ones too much.…

It was a brisk fall morning in November. I had woken up extra early just to make sure I could make it out to my stand before the sun would peek above the horizon. I quickly brushed my teeth, got dressed in blaze orange from head to toe, grabbed some snacks, and began the journey out to the stand where I would be sitting for a while.…
