Personal Narrative: Communication With A Minor In PR

Improved Essays
My major, communication with a minor in PR, is something that I thought a lot about. I have a passion for people and writing which lead me here. Communication is all about learning interactions with people and with outside forces. I am fascinated with this ever since I took a Communication class at LCC. I also decided on PR because of my love for writing. I have always been an English buff and writing has always come so easily to me. I thought this was a great minor because it will challenge me. This will force me out of using fluff in my writing and being clear and concise when trying to get my point across.
Sigma Delta Tau sorority is a huge part of my life and a big time commitment. We have meetings every week plus volunteer work and events

There are many reasons why I would like to be apart of Delta Sigma Theta. From my first exposure to Greek organizations, Delta Sigma Theta stood out to me amongst the other sororities. As a first generation college student without any prior Greek knowledge I was amazed by Delta Sigma Theta illustration of sisterhood. I admired and still admire the demeanor that a Delta woman presents to the world. In my opinion, a Delta woman exemplifies courage, gratitude, and Intelligence.…

My interest for potentially becoming a part of the Psi Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is based on the personal and professional development of its members and the social change that results in equality. I view Psi Theta Omega Chapter as a huge advocate for the metropolitan Orlando area when it comes to the community service and its involvement of its educational growth of its young ladies. These are a major focus that has sparked my interest in understanding what this Sorority does as a whole. One indicator, of a teenager struggling to establish their identity, would be that the teenager begins to outwardly reject the establishment of their parents. This is usually the most notable conflict between parent and teenager as it creates a clash of ideals between the individuals. During this rejection and rebellion stage, teenagers may seek out religious practices that are different than their parents. By rejecting the preference of the parent; the teenager is not disregarding or discounting the religion of the parent, but merely searching for a religion that the individual can make their own.…

Leaders, strong, courageous, self-defining, outspoken, headstrong, dedicated, loving, humble, and proud, the words that I use to describe my three Delta cousins. However, it is possible to sum these characteristics into one simple, descriptive phrase; distinguished women. My interest in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is built on the basis of these three women. I don’t get to see or talk to them as much as I’d like, when I do, whether on social media or in person, I am always smitten by their distinguished attributes. These women have watched me grow to the woman that I am today, but I too have watched these women.…

I kept the same habits from high school, where I wouldn't ask for help even if I needed it, and tried to do things entirely on my own. Since that wasn't working, and the end of the semester nearing, I did something I never did back in high school: I sought tutor help. The tutor I met with, Cecilia, not only helped me craft near perfect lab reports that were needed to narrowly pass the class, she also inspired me to be a better person. It turns out, which I later found out, that university tutors are not required to help with lab reports. Thus, it occurred to me that Cecilia helped me out of her own whim.…

I never imagined myself joining a sorority when I was growing up, but after staying with Chi Omega as a prospective student, I changed my mind. College was totally new territory for me, and I had no support system at William Woods. I was searching for a sisterhood, group of friends, and something to push me to better myself daily. I found all of that and more upon joining Chi Omega. The other houses had their strong points and some great girls, but none of them really compared to what Chi Omega offered to me.…

Nearly everyone is part of a discourse community, most of the time, multiple discourse communities. However, the majority of people do not even know what a discourse community is. The area of public relations that I’m highly interested in is Media Relations. I chose media relations because I’m drawn to the idea of creating a presence for a company online. Social media is completely changing how people consume, and that affects those who work in Media relations. While some may be intimidated by that, I choose to look at it as a challenge to get bloggers, and subsequently the public, to buy into the product or service I’m trying to sell. There’s a lot of critical thinking that goes into this area of public relations, and not just with how to sell the product/service, but how to remain relevant online as well.…
