Personal Narrative: Communication And Short-Term Memory Disorder

I was five years old who was starting kindergarten. I tried to make friends with my classmates , but the start of my first day of school didn’t turn out as I expected because whenever I try to communicate with the other students, I was unable to speak clearly. It turns out that I had a communication and short-term memory disorder and it became the greatest challenge I had to face throughout my childhood. It was difficult to make friends with this problem because it was hard to express my thoughts and feelings in any conversation. Soon, my mother noticed that I didn’t have a lot of friends at PS 102, so she took me in the verbal testing room. Soon, I realize that I diagnosed myself with a communication disorder. Because of my disability, mom dial my lawyer's phone number to help transfer me to a new private school called the School For Language of Communication Development (“SLCD”) so they could help me improve my communication and speech. …show more content…
However, it wasn’t easy for me because learning the basic sounds of all letters and words required a lot of memorization and getting familiar with the sounds. My short term memory problem made my goal harder to achieve. It took until middle school to effectively be able to communicate my ideas to others. I kept practicing my speech and phonics by sounding out all the basic words and letters until I got the hang of it with my teachers. Because of my improvement throughout the years, I was able to make a lot of friends and communicate my ideas to them at SLCD. I realized, looking back at that time, what a significant accomplishment it was to finally be able to make new peer relationships with
