Personal Narrative: Coming Out To Homosexuals

Decent Essays
Coming out to my conservative parents was not what I expected. From my frequent calls and texting, they figured I am a lesbian. They were shocked at first and then demanded me to stop having any additional contacts to my girlfriend; otherwise, I would lose their financial support.
In the past eighteen years, my parents had always been helicopters spiraling around me; however, my relationship and coming out made me understand it was time for me to step up and become independent. I wanted my parents to understand that lesbians are common individuals and I am responsible for my own identity.
At school, did everything a normal person would do – I joined the engineering club and also interned at various companies. At home, I wrote thank-you cards

Personal Narrative Assessment Notes The narrative “Out in the Open” would benefit from stronger, more concise language. It's vital to be careful with modifying words. Weak modifiers such as, basically, sort of, and mostly, detract from the strength of all genres of writing. Repetition reviled itself multiple times towards the end of the narrative. The adjective “happy” was overused (three times in 50 words).…

~Troye's POV~ It's been two months now, since my so called "parents" gave up on me and sent me to this orphanage. They couldn't handle their 17-year-old son being depressed, and when I told them I'm gay, that was it for them.…

“Boys will be boys” my mom said nonchalantly as I told her what had occurred in my last class period of the day. It baffled me how a teenage boy being mocked for his sexuality could be so trivial in her eyes. I didn’t understand how the struggle for gay rights was any different from black rights or feminism. To me we were all united, brought together by our interminable fight for equality and acceptance. As an amiable and peaceful introvert I find it difficult to stand up for what I believe is right.…

Coming out isn’t ever painless, but in the end it’s worthwhile. On October 10, 2015 I came out to my friends as a lesbian. It took over three years to mustard up the courage to accept myself. The moment I realized I was “different” I immediately block the notion from my head and reframed from it for over two years. I allowed myself to believe the lie I fictitious, until the point I could no longer function.…

I've come to realize that being a lesbian is a big part of who I am. It's not all that I am, but it's a single word that succinctly describes an otherwise mysterious part of myself, and it comes with an entire culture. It might seem like an arbitrary trait to focus so heavily on, but I think many people don't realize what a big role their orientation plays in their lives. Humans naturally want to understand themselves, but that was hard for me in a society that allows little flexibility in regards to gender and sexuality. Growing up with that pressure added to the feeling that my true self was buried under piles of assumptions and expectations, and it took a lot of digging to unearth it.…

With how my mother kept encouraging me to talk to her during the process, kept saying that I could tell her anything, I was able to gain the courage to finally tell my parents I was bisexual. They were surprised, I had to explain bisexuality to my parents. My father took more time to accept it, although he never said anything disapproving, it took a while for him to be comfortable acknowledging it. I was able to be more open with them and be more comfortable with my situation as we continued the planning. My mother was the most comforting and accepting of it, she was my…

Gay Marriage and Equality Gay marriage, these two words can make people go from being completely civilized, to arguing like crazy. This is a very sensitive topic for many people, and I honestly don't know why it has to be. I am fully supportive of the gay marriage law and rights. I think that through the years we have had this image of what a perfect society is supposed to be like. Trying to make the perfect society has ruined us we no longer accept people for they are, we only accept people that fit our own idea of perfect.…

I was seventeen and was watching an Indian movie along with my friends about young children going abroad to be independent and to fulfill their goals in life. I came to realize that it was a dream of many people to pursue higher education in the United States. After much thought, I was certain it was also a dream of mine to further my education in the home of the brave. As we all know, America is considered the land of opportunities, which is the main reason I chose to pursue my dreams and goals here. I come from a middle class family, where no one had even considered travelling to a country seven seas away from our motherland.…

Their personality needs some remedy to boost their audacity up in this world.…

When I first realized I was gay, it did not seem like a big difference. Some exciting stuff happened, like gay marriage becoming legal and meeting a group of friends who were also part of the lgbtq community. As time went on I trended towards music, art, literature, almost anything as long as I felt accepted or represented. I became more political as it became clear that more people than I could have imagined would like to take away my basic rights or the rights of those in my community. I could not understand how others were not keeping up in the realm of politics, why they were not as loud as me when it came to the same issues.…

The lowest I have ever gotten is when I decided to make the choice to go against my mother. It is not that I meant to do anything to hurt her; I just wanted to try to find some way to be seen as ‘normal’ in society. I had been fighting an internal conflict for years and I was not aware of the proper way to deal with my predicament, so I took the hard route unknowingly. If I could re-do one moment in my life, I would go back to my 10th grade self and let myself accept the fact that I am gay. If I had not made such foolish decisions, I probably would not want to go back to that time as much as I do.…

I am aware that my parents do love me, but that does not mean they would approve of my choices of who I choose to love. I can relate to the feeling of the main character in the film because I know that my parents are not very fond of the idea of homosexuality so discovering that I am bisexual may be greeted with disapproval from my parents. Although I am not exactly running away from home in order to freely express myself like the character in the film I am however similarly only able to truly define who I am when I am away from my…

As a young girl, I didn’t fully understand what “gay” meant. My sister once tricked me into saying that I was gay and I ended up yelling “I’m gay!” throughout our house, blissfully unaware of what I was saying. My sister isn’t a homophobe, though. She came out as bisexual when she was around thirteen years old, and I remember her telling me she was dating a girl a few years after that.…
