Personal Narrative: Collegium

I am Lakynn and I am 14 years old. I have loved anything music related ever since I was little. I like all types of music. Music is my way to escape. I know that Collegium is a music group where you dress up in Renaissance clothing and sing acapella. You guys perform several times. I have a friend in Collegium, Brianna Ring, and I have heard from her that Collegium is like a little family once you get to know everyone, and that is exactly what I am looking for. I love performing in front of people and I try not to show that I am nervous. Seeing familiar faces in the crowd, knowing that someone has my back, and knowing someone thinks that I can do it always helps me feel better. Collegium isn’t just singing with a group of people, you grow together throughout the four years of high school. Collegium is an experience like none other. Collegium is something fun and serious. It’s not just singing with others as a whole that I enjoy. It’s the rush of performing and the harmony. The lights. The music and costumes. Everything. Collegium is something that I would be honored to be in. …show more content…
In the third grade I sang gospel on the radio. It was something that I loved. In every school performance I have ever been in, I’ve sang a solo or sang/danced in a group. I am also in Ensemble, and this year I participated in the All County Choir. I even had a solo in the beginning of the show. My attendance is really good. The only time I miss school is when I am really sick. I am in B.E.T.A. and we do a great deal of practicing and we do a bunch of fundraising (like pancake breakfasts and spaghetti dinners). I am always there. I never miss. I try my hardest to help with whatever I can. One important part is, I never miss a show. I will cancel anything just to

Becoming a member of any school activity is an amazing path to building friendships and character. The more involved I am, the more I can improve. One such activity that I actively involve myself in every year is the school musical. The musical cast works very hard, but the days and hours we practice interfere with some school clubs I take part in. This doesn’t stop me from everything.…

My favorite class was Gospel Choir. There were many people there and if you didn’t have any friends, everyone in Gospel Choir was your friend. We played instruments such as: Piano, Keyboard, Drums, Saxophone and Tambourines, No one needed a microphone, we were loud enough. Sometimes we would break up into small groups and start singing music from other famous artist. Of course there’s always some who’s not shy to sing a solo.…

My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers. We thought we were “hot stuff” because we progressed from the slide ruler to a state of the art Texas Interment graphing calculator. By the way google informed me that my particular calculator at that time was the first of its kind.…

At the end of sixth grade, the junior high band came to my elementary school and performed for us. I watched in awe as students, not that much older than me, played music with their instruments. The flute players in the front row especially caught my attention; they were right next to the band directors and held their instruments up to the side, rather than down in front of them like the others. The flute had a high pitched melody and a bright silver color that appealed to me. That day, I signed up for the beginner band on the Coppinville Junior High registration sheet.…

I take pride in music by being apart of my high school all-girl-acapella group, Ovation. I am so proud to be a part of this diverse group. Especially being a senior, and the only senior in our beautiful group this year. I am very excited to be the only senior, as well as an Ovation veterane (This being my second year in the group), because this gives me an opportunity to lead with accuracy in directing the younger girls to improve and learn further in their musical career. I enjoy helping the girls through music and believe that it helps us both to become better musicians and even…

If someone asked me if I could live without any music for one year, I would answer no. Music adds a little color to my everyday life in college and at home. I listen a variety of different genres which alters depending on the mood I am in. Whether it’s singing in the ladies’ ensemble, learning a new instrument, or listening to my favorite artists during my strolls, music has always played an essential part in my life. I joined the Chorus and the Vocal Ensemble at the high school and continued to try and better myself as a musician. My music department also offered me other musical opportunities such as festivals. I have attended several festivals such as the Lakes Region music festival and the All New England music festival. These festivals allowed me to come together with other students from different schools that loved singing and performing as much as I did. Every time I perform at one of these festivals I am overwhelmed by how beautiful music can be when everyone I am working with is just as passionate as I am about the work we are doing and also extremely talented.…

What is an artist? The definition of an artist is different to everyone. To some, the word artist is taken as its literal meaning: someone who, quite simply, practices a creative profession. Others see it as a person who uses their creative energy and unleashes it for others to enjoy. To me, the true artist is someone who is able to control their creativity and use it to contribute to the greater good.…

“Line up at the piano if you are going to audition,” Mr. Rosser said to the choir. I wanted this solo more than anyone. It would be more than just a few bars of basic Latin to me: it was my chance. Rosser had been picking me out of the crowd of over a hundred and twenty girls from the beginning, but not for any talent I possessed. I was always looking down, not speaking, my hair was over my eyes, and I didn’t talk at all, let alone to a full choir.…
