After about six years of being an ordinary, rather unremarkable person, I finally came to the conclusion that I will never be amazing at anything. Many say that nobody's perfect, but I have seen people that come very close. I used to pity myself, thinking, "I can never be them." Well, I still think that way. What has changed, however, is the self-pitying attitude and negative outlook on life. I was not born with the natural brilliance of Albert Einstein, or the athletic ability of Serena Williams. So what? I have come to realize that if I give my all in everything that I do, I can be almost as great. I don’t have to fit into a “role,” like I once thought. I used to never give my full effort to something I knew …show more content…
At the beginning of high school, I didn't know how life worked; I was still in the sweet dream that is adolescence. I didn't want to expend the effort required to overcome my fear of adulthood. Eventually I got over that hurdle, and now when I want something, I go get it. I still am not exceptionally talented in anything, and I do enjoy doing nothing but sleep from time to time. What I do have, however, is tenacity. I have a wide array of things I am good at simply because I tried hard enough and stubbornly didn’t quit tasks even when I easily could have dropped them. Although I am not good enough at tennis to make the U.S Open, I can say with pride that I made the varsity tennis team my first year of playing through hard work, not raw talent. I sang and danced in a musical, and did it well, then the next season I was playing varsity softball. My vast array of skills can be summed up in a phrase: “jack of all trades, master of

Never Give Up I have faced much adversity in my life. The one time in my life where I feel I have faced the most adversity, was in basketball. Throughout my life I have loved playing basketball, but in ninth through eleventh grade in high school I started to hate it, because of all the adversity I faced. “Help, Help” The cries of a distressed woman. These are the bellows that apprehend our thoughts, luckily we have people that can make sure we sleep safely, these people are called heroes and a hero can be anyone, even you. The standards that we are equipped with in this modern day allow us to be more essential heroes than in the prehistoric times of Beowulf as we have advanced technology, our knowledge has expanded and we have been trained professionally. Failure is not characterized by what is lost, but instead by the lessons one learns from the experience. An area of my life in which I’ve faced many struggles has been music. Ever since a young age, I have been truly passionate about music; from singing, to dancing, to playing piano and percussion. Nothing makes me happier than succeeding in something I care about, but often it is extremely difficult to achieve musical honors due to the exceptionally talented competition. Two years in a row, I failed to make the Iowa All-State Chorus.…

In sports most players master one set of skills. For example in volleyball, a libero, a player who only plays the back row, is the best passing player on the court. These players usually do not like playing in the front row, as they believe that they aren't as good at hitting as they are at passing. This hinders their skill set and in the end most colleges do not recruit players without well rounded skills. Author Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote, "Unless you try to do something beyond what you have mastered, you will never grow."…

"Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow," wrote, writer, Ralph Waldo Emerson. I completely agree with this statement. I believe that doing the same routine and never going out of your comfort zone will not allow you to grow as a person. You must push your limits in order to learn new things. Making mistakes is human nature, without them it's impossible to learn life lessons and change your mindset to become a better person.…

Allstate is the pinnacle of a musician 's high school music career, and is the standard to which they are held to for the rest of their musical journey. Whenever someone mentions they were a musician in school, if the other person also was a musician, he will invariably ask, "Did you make Allstate?" As a high school student at a music festival or camp, at least one person is bound to say, "Hey, you 're pretty good! Would I have seen you at Allstate?" To someone who isn 't a musician, it 's difficult to describe what Allstate represents to us.…

Music. It is my sincerest intrigue since I was in fifth grade. My elementary school teacher introduced me to my fascination and, before I knew it, I was playing the Marimba during my sophomore year of high school in honors band. This was a second turning point, as I learned to play at a much more difficult level of music and at a much quicker pace. After a few weeks of that year, things got progressively harder.…

The year is 2012 and the blisters on the palms of my hands have become rock hard from years of manual labor. After a hard days work, I kick back and relax, and sit on the porch with my lips wrapped around the tip of a green Heineken bottle. I share laughs with my next-door neighbor, who also happens to be my best friend, while the speakers blast Nas 's "Represent. " I 'm not really thinking of the future just yet, I 'm more indulged with the thoughts of females and the summer nights ahead of us, but very soon, on March 31st 2012, my life would change in ways I couldn’t begin to explain after an unfortunate, or maybe not so unfortunate, mishap. Such was this mishap, that after being brought back to life by a paramedic, I made a promise the following…

This is a fact that has been a reoccurring problem since entering my senior year, as every college application and scholarship opportunity is nothing but bragging, and honestly it makes me uncomfortable.
