Personal Narrative: Closed Voting

Improved Essays
Since I was really little my mom would take me to voting polls with her. She would let me press the buttons of who she wanted elected and then tell me why. I remember her always telling me to choose if I wanted to be a democrat or a republican. One day I asked my mom why I couldn’t register as an independent and she told me that I would not be able to vote during primaries. When I was able to register to vote I registered as a democrat even though I am an independent at heart. In my opinion the two major obstacles that stand in the way of the independent candidates is closed ballots, and campaigns. I would support a reform on changing closed ballots to open ballots to make it easier for independents to make it in to office.

It wasn’t until the middle of my freshman year of high school that I gained the self-confidence I had only dreamed about.…

Still, these laws make it substantially more difficult for serious candidates from third parties to participate in the political process. Because of the requirements placed on them, it is problematic for third parties to make their contribution to society. Therefore, if the ballot access laws were amended in every state to be less stringent, while still maintaining the serious vetting process required to keep out unworthy candidates, it would be more beneficial to the nation and by association, the…

I refrain from making hasty decisions, a trait that’s made it easier to manage time and keep my life organized. It’s not that I don’t enjoy some spontaneity, just that I’ve had experience with faulty planning. I like to consider as many details and possible outcomes of a situation before making a decision; in fact, I believe it’s my best characteristic. Thinking things through allows me to make sound, satisfying choices in both my academic and social life. It is a practice that has saved me from careless mistakes on math tests and kept my activities.…

It seems the parties on both sides are weakening and certain areas of beliefs of strong party lines are becoming compromised, with others that may have opposing viewpoints, just to reach an agenda to propel them forward. It would seem we have many individuals who are now branching off their party line and are becoming independents. For example, we see the Tea party, American independent party, which has been around for many years, and others along…

Visions are only unique as the individual themselves who make up this country. America is not the same as it was ten years ago.
