Personal Narrative: Closed Doors While Driving

Improved Essays
I have had a lot of experiences where doors have opened and closed for me. A big one that has been recent this year was getting my license. Having the ability to drive around in my own car alone is a big responsibility to an open door that could lead to a closed door. Not only are you responsible for yourself while driving a vehicle, but when having others in the car with you, you are 100% responsible for them as well. Before driving you have to make sure everyone is wearing their seatbelt at all times and that no one distracting you. That means you should set your cell phone or any devices aside, turn on your music before you gear out of park, and know where you’re going before even getting into the car. The airbags surprisingly did not go off, but the guy who hit us, did. The guy who hit us had been from Maryland. He mentioned that he had been on his way home from work and that he has been up since 5:00 A.M. He truthfully admitted that he may have fallen asleep. His front windshield was not clear to drive. The hood of his car was completely dented up and smoke was coming out. This was a life changing moment for me because it was my first car accident I had ever been in. Our car wasn’t too bad in our perspective, but from the guy who hit us was. It could have been a lot worse if my dad were to keep driving and he hit a car or had not been in the far right lane to pull over as quickly as he did. I couldn’t stop shaking and tearing up the rest of the night because of the noises I heard from the crash. This life changing moment will forever affect me while I am driving. I will forever make sure I have my seatbelt on even while sleeping. I will forever be cautious of my surroundings while I am in traffic. I will forever be aware and alert if I am in traffic to never fall asleep or be on my phone while non stop stopping and

Disappointed, disbelief and fear filled my mind as I sat there between the shattered windshield and my steering wheel. I couldn’t stop thinking about what just happened, what did I just do, and did this really just happen to me? My lungs began to tighten up as I began to cry out of fear. Knowing that my parents were back in Arizona and I was there all alone with no family.…

On a beautiful clear morning of February the 19th, my mom picked me up from my class at the University of West Georgia, then we went to Waffle House to have a nice breakfast. We left from Waffle House, proceeding down Maple Street, and turned onto South Street and immediately onto Kenner Street. We then turned onto on the merging lane on South Park Street (US Hwy 27) heading south, we immediately halted to a full stop as vehicles moved from the middle lane into the merging lane in front of us, but at that time there were no vehicles behind us. As we waited to enter traffic, a car suddenly struck us from behind which caused the car to jerk violently forward, causing my mother’s chest to hit the steering wheel, and our heads and bodies to whip forward and then back.…

I've always heard that drivers should practice "defensive driving. " It makes sense, we all know how big a car is and how fast it can go, you can find all of those numbers somewhere on the car itself. We all know someone who has been in an accident, be it minor or major. When cars collide, it can be catastrophic and everyone knows it well. But somehow, at least for me, the idea of it actually all being real didn't happen until I had gotten into an accident where I was forced to deal with the consequences of even a minor collision.…

How to Handle a Crash at Night Step 1: Remain calm- Even the best drivers get into crashes from time to time, but it is important for you to stay calm. Driving school rarely teaches how panic can cause you to make bad decisions that could damage either your health or finances in the long-run. Therefore, take a minute to get yourself together and plan how you will proceed to get out of your situation. Step 2: Evaluate the Scene- One of the worst parts about getting in a crash at night is that the accident itself can be difficult to see.…

Hi, I’m that reckless teenage girl your mom and dad always told you would get you injured, the one that believes if they go over 100mph down that straightaway in Idaho there will be no consequences, the one that doesn’t listen to the “NO DIVING” warning on the side of the pool since ‘she knows how to swim’, and the one that doesn’t realize until she’s 17 years old that you can’t survive every injury you obtain. Speed is my weakness, if its quads, dirt bikes, cars, or bicycles I always want to go faster. A few years ago my family had multiple sport quads which I would go way faster than I ever should have in the space I was riding them in, (a little over three acres of wooded trails.) My dad and I decided to finish off the night by racing through one of the major loops that we have. As a super competitive person in sports I was flying through the trails, I came down the hill faster than I should have since there was a sharp corner at the end.…

I’m 17 and I have no idea what I want to do with my life; I thought to myself as I looked at a list of colleges near Detroit, Michigan. I slammed the book shut and grabbed my backpack and returned the book to its shelf. Enough college searching for one day, though I knew my mother was only going to nag me about it when I went home. I walked out of the high school with pep in my step until I remembered what I had to drive. I walked up to my ’72 blue Skylark and said a silent prayer to myself that I would at least make it home today with this sad excuse for a car.…

On August 24, 2017, I made a decision to be completely aware of how precious life is. That day, I helped move my brother, Joe, into his apartment on the Central Michigan University campus. That day I came to a full realization of how reckless people are and how they completely disregard their safety and others. They take their lives for granted and don’t think about how their actions will or might affect others lives. These reckless people also rely on others to respond quickly enough to react of adapt to the situation they have been forced into to prevent loss of life.…

I went to hug my family because I wanted them to know I loved them a lot. My mom was still crying because she thought we had hit a car; a miscommunication on her part. I did not say anything about her crying because she was a scared mother, and she needed to just cry it out before she could feel better. When I was released from her hug, I watched as the kind man, whose house was near the wreck, and my dad come up with a plan to get the car out of the ditch and onto a car trailer. They both worked to get the hook somewhere on the car, so the winch could pull the car onto the trailer.…
