The day had come and we had given up. Then, all of sudden, I get a mysterious call, it was my mom's friend and she had two invitations for the event. We were freaking out, we were finally achieving our dream. We were meeting our idol. In two hours we passed from emotional teenagers to fancy freaks. We got to the event, took lots of photos, talked to bunch of important people that were also waiting for him and most of the time we waited. Time had passed and he had not arrived. My mother first introduced me to the idea of Wagner, raving about its theatre program, arguing I was a perfect fit. Growing up less than an hour from Boston, I slightly tasted city life throughout my childhood; yet always wanted to be a part of something bigger than a middle class town. Wagner’s location blends NYC life with my hometown environment, appealing to both sides of my personality. Further influenced my by mother’s review, I began researching Wagner’s website, where I discovered the Port Richmond Partnership. I grew up doing community service with my father at soccer fields on Saturday mornings, and I strive to combine volunteering with theatre.…

Honestly, I’ll come right out and admit that I have never been the Detroit Lion’s number one fan, or any football fan for that matter. Sure, I had technically gone to each of the homecoming games both years in high school, but only for the sole excuse of being able to put some red war paint on my face and attempt to catch up with some friends. The only exposure I had to the sport was walking through the doors of Phase Three during cross country season. Day after day, I was forced to push through groups of teenage guys reeking with a putrid stench of dried sweat, rotting eggs, and grass stains; the smell in itself was enough to make my eyes water.…

Even though I do not remember many things from my childhood, I remember the moment when I met Melvin Miller very clearly. I was only five, and when I walked up to him for the first time I had no clue he would change my life forever. My first moment with Melvin was watching him lay tile. I watched as he very eloquently placed each piece of porcelain and grout on the floor in a way that I had never seen before. I was immediately captivated.…

The screeching of my violin echoed off the wall as I struggled to play Mendelssohn's concerto in E minor. The double stops that were meant to flow in harmony came out in a jumbled mass of notes indistinguishable from the shriek of a dying cow. I whimpered as these terrible sounds emitted out of my violin, and threw my violin down in defeat. I slowly tilted my head towards the clock, a terrifying reminder that my addition was only 10 min away. I gathered up my music, and ambled away from the empty practice room to where my judge would listen to my audition.…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…
