Personal Narrative: Christian Camp

Starting at the age of seven, I attended an all girls camp by the name Camp Skyline Ranch. I would not be who I am today without this place. It taught me how to be outgoing, make new friends, and step out of my comfort zone. Skyline not only helped grow my personality but also my spiritual life. Every morning and evening, we had a devotion. After two weeks, I would come home with new friends and a fire in my heart. The summer of 2015 was my last summer at this wonderful Christian camp. That same year I got to experience a variety of leadership roles. I had the opportunity of being a club songleader and an assistant counselor in training as well as being a part of a leadership training program. To be an assistant counselor in training (ACIT), …show more content…
The ACITs like to have a little friendly competition. When a counselor raises their hand for more food or drinks, the ACITs race to get there. The summer I was an ACIT we made an ACIT rap song. Since it was my last summer, I was in a leadership training program. The campers who were aging out were each assigned a cabin to be there LT. We assisted the counselors to put the girls to bed after each night time activity. We also got to choose an activity to assist in. Being a tennis player, I chose to LT a tennis activity. It was fun to coach the girls on what I have been taught and feed them the balls - something I had never done. The final leadership role I was in was being the songleader for the Ranger club. Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed about being a leader for my club. I wanted to teach the songs. I wanted to lead the club. I looked at those girls in awe because they were just so cool. It was a dream I had that I could not believe came true. In those two weeks, I had so many girls looking up to me whether it be in the dining hall, in the cabin, or in club events. It was a lot of pressure, but I would not have had my last summer at Camp Skyline Ranch for girls any other

The site that I visited was Mercy Hill Church in Greensboro, NC. I went to a sermon, with some friends, that took place on a Sunday night. When we arrived at the church, we stayed together and observed the site. The members of this church all seemed to be within their twenties and thirties; there were a few younger children and a few older women and men, but not many. Most of these people seemed to be from Christian ethnic backgrounds or just unaffiliated with any ethnicity.…

Slowly, I took on more responsibility positions both in and out of Scouting, imparting my own amazing experience in Philmont onto the younger scouts and leading my fellow students as co-founder of Sustainability Club. Following my contributions in the Pancake Breakfast, I took a year-long hiatus from Scouting to focus on my studies, taking multiple AP classes to help supplement my interests. After the impromptu break, when I rejoined and revisited the enjoyment I experienced from my Philmont trek, I affirmed myself as a Scout for life, as I saw the positive influence the program had on me and knew that Scouting could guide me to become a better citizen of the community. Largely responsible for introducing me to my leadership abilities and individual morals, Scouting has shaped my character through my experiences with…

Camp is place unlike any other. It is a place that people’s wall begin to fall down and new relationships are formed. This is bound to happen when you drop 200 teenagers in the middle of the Smoky Mountains without any of their electronics. I was lucky enough to be chosen for the Project Serve team and got to see camp from a new perspective. I got to be a part of all of the behind the scenes work, but also daily interactions with all of the campers due to my job at camp.…

I want to be in the Leader's In Training program because Camp Mendocino is teaching youth how to live a healthy life at a young age. This camp helps the upcoming youth live in reality instead of the virtual world and ties into my overall life goal of helping Americans understand what it means to live a healthy life physically and mentally. This is important to me because I have dealt with depression and how unhappy I was with myself as a person. From the negative experience I’ve had with depression I don't want any child or teen feel like they are unworthy of the life they are living. By working with Camp Mendocino I will be helping the youth understand how to have a healthy state of mind by encouraging campers to deal with negative feelings…

Most teenagers would probably tell you that the beginning of their adulthood was marked by having to do laundry for the first time, or being able to drive alone, or perhaps no longer sitting at the children's table at family events. But for me, it happened this past summer, when I made the very difficult decision that I would not return to Coleman Country Day Camp. To those who were not fortunate enough to have grown up at summer camp, this might not seem like such a big decision to make. But Coleman was my outlet, my second home for ten consecutive summers and spending those two months anywhere else seemed inconceivable to me.…

When asked the question, “Why do you want to become an RPLS major?” I automatically think of this past year. A year ago, I was unsure what I wanted to do as a career. I had declared a major in Athletic Training, but I wasn’t set on making it my career. I was having a conversation with a friend one day, and she advised me to look into the RPLS major.…

Many people don’t know what they want to be when they “grow up”, as for my mother she didn’t know what type of religion she wanted to be in when she “grew up”. However, she did know the basics that she believed in which was God, the Holy Spirit, his son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Bible that being said she considered herself Christian and raised me as a Non-Denominational Christian. That was until my senior year of High School when my mom decided she no longer wanted to be part of the Non-Denominational Christian faith and switched over to becoming part of the LDS faith known as the Mormons and flipped my life upside-down with their different views of norms and values. Growing up Non-Denominational Christian is fairly simple faith and to me…

Though I love everything that I do, My favorite thing I do is work up at an all boys camp in Rhinelander, Wisconsin called Camp Deerhorn. Every year that I travel up to camp, I look forward to meeting new people and forming some new friendships. In my room I have a plaque that reads “Camp Deerhorn Creed.” It was written by the founder of Camp Deerhorn, Dr. Don C. Broadbridge in 1930, and it lists out 13 of the most essential and important ways on how to act in order to become a gentleman. My two personal favorites are “Too spread sunshine and good cheer, just for the fun of it.”…

My new school year had started for 11th grade and I was ready to do things bigger and better than before. One of my classes I looked forward to was JROTC. I love how all of us cadets stick together and push each other to succeed. I always liked the leadership’s role I got in JROTC, but when I got one, I thought I could do more or be more. The cadets in the class knew I would be a good leader and so did some of my instructors.…

I’m a member of the Student Leadership Team at my school. We created a program called Big Eagle, Little Eagle for my high school. The program gives the opportunity for a elementary student to be paired up with a high student. This gives the high school student the opportunity to mentor younger students, who really need an older role model to talk to. The younger students are selected by the counselors as they know who needs the most support.…

Throughout the past four years, I have had many different identities to many different people. I have been a daughter, sister, friend, student, tutor, teammate, team captain, and so much more; my favorite role to play, however, has been that of a camp counselor. Since the summer of my sophomore year, I have volunteered at the Peace and Justice Center’s “Peace Camp for Kids,” a program geared towards helping underprivileged children, accepting them as they are, and convincing them that they are worthy of respect, affection, and dignity. Peace Camp has become an integral part of my identity; my experience there has been, by far, the most rewarding and influential experience that I have ever had.…

On August 26, 2005, I gave my life to Christ, and it was the start of a whole new chapter of my journey. I still remember that night vividly in my head. The feelings of excitement, joy, and love were very tangible in my heart. My mom and dad were both sitting beside me on my bed while I was told the importance of this decision and how my life would never be the same. Even at 5 years old, I was aware of my decision to follow Jesus and accept him into my heart.…
