I’m struggling to keep up with my teammates. This game is crucial for us to win the finals. I look around and see my team fighting for the ball. I mustered up my strength and began to run down the court. I took the first opportunity that I had and grabbed the ball. Using the rest of my strength, I laid it into the basket. I felt exhausted after just one basket. “Will I cost my team the championship”? I thought to myself. I gathered my energy and put another basket in. I’m not sure how much …show more content…
I can see the worried faces of our fans. The head coach is debating on keeping me in the game. “Maybe you should sit this one out Michael,” I hear behind me. “No,” I answer firmly. I get up from the bench and begin walking toward the court. It’s the second quarter and my team is down by sixteen points. I take a second look around the stadium. “These people believe in me,” I think to myself. The whistle blows and both teams start charging for the ball. My stomach still aches, but I work through the pain. I don’t know how I got this sick. I rush toward the ball and push a layup into the basket. It doesn’t feel as tiring as the last. I was not too thrilled with the thought at first. I decided to talk to some of my friends to get their view on it. Most of their responses were negative. I remember my best friend at the time had told me, “You can’t even do your hair and cut your nails, how are you going to play basketball”. I don’t know why I even asked, I didn’t had a choice.…

There were three penalty kicks that had to be taken, each by a different person. Finally my coach came to a consensus, I would be taking the penalty kicks along with my two teammates, Morgan and Amelia. There was time in between to get water and catch our breaths. Our whole team was overly nervous and very upset, the other team was very aggressive and had knocked down a lot of our players shaking them up. “ Don’t let them get to your head ,” she said “ just play your game and you guys will do great.” The ref blew his whistle to indicate to the three shooters and the goalies they had to get on the field.…

I did not think that the player who can barely shoot from free-throw line can play well. Therefore, I kept practicing basketball. I ran a miles to build up physical strength, took couple of hundred shots over and over, and dribbled the ball as fast as possible. The Sport That Made Me As the clock counted down 3, 2, 1 I knew my career was over, but it was one good ride. Playing Chester High school in the Suburban One playoffs at Chester isn’t ideal for any basketball player from Southeastern Pennsylvania; it was truly a blessing and an experience I will remember for the rest of my life. Chester is the hometown of a couple of NBA players such as Jameer Nelson and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson. Chester has also produced other 1,000 point scorers who have gone to lay professional basketball overseas. As the clock ticked down in my last career high school game I felt terrible I knew it would have to come to an end someday.…
