People always have many different opinions about cheerleaders; some good and some bad. Some think of them as the girls in skirts that just stand on the sidelines on Friday nights, but to me, cheerleading is so much more. Cheerleading is a way to show your support for the team being cheered on and spirit for your school, all while setting an outstanding example for everyone else within the community. I believe our squad holds enough potential to be one of the best squads to ever filter through Robertsdale High School; I would love nothing more than to be able to help guide this group of girls in the right direction and push our squad to be the best we can be.
After cheering for the past 4 years—two of which I have been on Varsity, including a year of competitive cheer—I have learned multiple lessons and have thought long and hard about how I would work to change or improve certain things if I was captain. Not only have the coaches taught me numerous new skills, both physically and mentally, they’ve also shown me how coming together as a team and pushing one and other to overcome obstacles an individual or group may face, truly brings everyone together and ends up improving us as a whole. I hope to be able to bring that to our squad this year, along with anything else that I could possibly bring to an individual or to the team. I feel that there will never be a time that you will have something perfect, so you must keep working to improve until it is perfected then move on to the next skill to work on just as hard. I think our entire squad could agree with that statement & would be willing to put in the time and effort to be the best we can
