Personal Narrative: Cheerleading

It was about that time, cheerleading tryouts for the year of 2010-2011. All emotions ran through my mind far as the goal I was trying to reach, but I wasn’t nervous. The prior year, I was already on the squad, therefore I was just striving for a much higher category, the captain’s position. It’s the week of tryouts and you could smell the nerves from the new girls in the air. We all met in the gymnasium to sign in for order, as Coach Randolph struggled to talk over the football team meeting that was actively being discussed. “Ladies, grab your belongings and head towards the outer part of the gym to finish this discussion, and do it quickly please ladies quickly!” Coach Randolph screamed trying to not let us know that she was beginning to stress. I decided to get of sip of water as relocated to a different area, far away from the extremely high amount of hot smelly sweaty boys, we call our football team. I ran towards the nearest water fountain as I came a across a new face that I recognized. I couldn’t believe that one of my best friends was joining the squad with me. …show more content…
First on the list of things we needed to learn to prepare us for tryouts was the chant. It was fairly easy to me and most of the ladies, but extremely difficult for my friend. It seemed to me as though she was struggling to memorize the motions as well as the words. As we finally came to a stopping point, I made my way over to where she was going over what we’ve learned that day in her head. “Would you like to continue this practice session at my place?” I asked as I held the phone to my ear trying to listen to my aggravated mother at the same time. She gave me her consent and we made our way to my mother, who was parked out front of the

I was really worried that I would be put back in regular math, so I took responsibility for myself and got extra help from my teacher and managed to accomplish all A’s on the consecutive tests and end the trimester with almost an A in that class. I’m so thankful that I was taught to be responsible for myself in cheer or else I may not have gotten the same outcome. Out of everything I have been taught these years, the most important skill I picked up from being a Junior Trojan is to never give up. During this season our team did amazing, but there will sporadically be those off days when things don’t always go as intended. On those days, it’s imperative to not give up on yourself and remind everyone that even though it may not have been our best day, it’s important that we remember that we are all talented, and very fortunate to even be where we are.…

As the current coaching staff knew, we were struggling without the guidance of our previous coach: every meet was like going into enemy territory, with little hometown crowd support. When our new Coach reminded us that we were unified and could stand with one another knowing that we’d triumph, we were rejuvenated. Commencing our execution of every meet in intention, we were conscious that our effort would amount to…

“Mariah, please report to Mr. Levine’s office for a meeting.” A weight dropped on my shoulders and I began to become very nervous. One by one we went into our assistant principle and athletic directors office. I slowly walked in and sat in the chair near his desk. He handed me a letter, which told me I was to represent girls’ soccer in the 2015 Tobacco Free ______.…

Even though my cheerleading routine is only two minutes and thirty seconds long we practice eleven months of the year and roughly 10 hours a week. I'm now 17 ,and I put seven years of hard work and determination into cheerleading. Without Cheerleading, I would never be in the successful position in my life that I'm currently in. Throughout my high school cheerleading career, I have had five different coaches. I have classified them into The Mom, The BFF, The Nazi, The Babysitter, The Crazy One, and The Ideal Coach. Each one made a distinct impact on cheer at TCPS in their own way, positive or negative, because of their actions and attitudes. Each category is specially designed for each coach I’ve had and their demeanor towards the cheerleading squad.…

Alana let's go, it's time to stretch, " said Danielle, one of my teammates. I ran to where the rest of my team was, as I ran I could hear the sound of my soccer cleats sticking to the mud. I got into line, we stretched in two lines. " OKAY GUYS LETS DO THIS," said Taylor, she was the leader of our team because she was a very confident and bold person which my coach John liked. We started to stretch, we had a routine that we always did.…

Cheerleading Tryouts “Come on Lauren you’ve been doing this way too long, you’ve been on the team every year since you were 14.” I said to myself as I walk through the halls of my High School. Today is May 24, the first day of the annual cheerleading try outs and for some reason I’m extremely nervous even though I’m a three year veteran. I go through my classes talking to all my other cheer friends saying how this is going to be a breeze and how we can’t wait to start the season even though my stomach is literally overwhelmed with butterflies. DING DING DING!!!…

In sixth grade, I wanted nothing more than to make Lusher’s middle school flag football team. I had dreamed of being on the team from the very first day I heard about it; all of my friends were trying out with me; and we had grand plans for a year of non-contact, semi-athletic exertion ahead of us. Having been anxiously awaiting the lunch period when the team roster would be revealed, I was thusly dismayed, disappointed, and disheartened when my name was not one of the eighteen posted on the PE office door. My mother, in all her eternal wisdom, saw a way out of the pit of despair I had sunk into: Lusher was starting an Academic Games team, and she thought I might enjoy playing. I was more than somewhat hesitant; she was more than somewhat…

Cheerleading takes hard work, dedication, and determination. Nothing in life is ever just handed to you, and if it is it’s probably just a knitted christmas sweater from your grandma that is two sizes too small, otherwise, you’re required to work for what you want most. As I have walked these imperfect high school hallways for four years, I start to realize that soon our high school experiences will become distant memories of the past that seem to just be fading away…

Og Mandino once said, “Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough.” I strongly agree with this quote as I have had experiences in which this quote proved itself. I once tried out for a football team and nearly didn’t make it, but my determination to succeed was strong enough to earn myself a spot on a new football team. I have played football since I was five, but I never faced the challenge of trying out for a team. Going into tryouts, I felt intimidated by the older kids trying out, but I didn’t allow that to break my focus on giving my all.…

This was the night that I was so nervous that I could have vomited seventeen times. I was just a freshman, there hasn’t been any freshman to do the thing that I did in my school, ever. I was asked to sing the national anthem at the first home volleyball game, but I had no idea what this would lead up to. Sure, I had been asked to sing at other events, but I hardly ever went through with it and when I did there was never as many people as there was at this game. Being a freshman is hard enough at high school and when you throw in a singing freshman, it is even harder.…

On the north end of the University of West Alabama football field a freshman cheerleader is seen with a tiger paw tattoo on her left cheek, an ear to ear smile on her face and a grip so tight on her pom-poms it looks as if she will never let go. Being a member of an organized squad is an all new experience for her. After being home-schooled kindergarten through 12th grade, Grace had to make the transition into a college classroom setting and becoming a member of a coed cheer squad.…
