Personal Narrative: Cheer Extreme Senior Elite

Improved Essays
My friend and I sat at the computer for hours. We watched and we dreamed. It's what you do when you are 8. As cheerleaders, we watched and idolized the best of the best. One of those elite teams happened to be here in North Carolina, my home state. We beseeched our parents to let us try out for this team when we reached the eligible age. This team was called Cheer Extreme Senior Elite. We started at Cheer Extreme Greenville. We went to competitions where Senior Elite competed. The two of us asked for pictures and autographs of the Senior Elite athletes. They were even more imposing in person. The videos of Senior Elite inspired us to work to be as good as the girls on that team, but we never expected to ever be as talented as them. As years went by, my friend and I slowly drifted apart from each other. I endured my love for the sport but my friend did not. …show more content…
I was in my 8th year cheering and I too was slowly losing interest in the sport that I always loved. I still thought about the team I longed to be on, but by now I realized the chances of me ever being part of the team were slim to none. It all changed when my mom received the call. I was precarious as I could not read the expression on my mom's face. Unsurely, I asked my mom who it was. She said competently that the coach of Senior Elite called and wanted me to come to tryouts the next day. I questioned my mom, afraid she misunderstood. This phone call reassured me and the passion I once had for this sport was back as if it never went away. I never felt more resolute to do something in my

On october 5, 2015 I stared across the living room at my parents wondering how I was going to find the words to explain to them one of the most difficult decisions of my life. I had loved softball since I was a little girl and despite many years of hard work and hundreds of hours, I couldn’t help but wonder if this was the right choice for me. Growing up watching my idol, Lauren Chamberlain pursue her dreams inspired me, I spent much of my childhood emulating my hero and dreaming one day I could be just like her. My dreams were briefly interrupted when I started thinking about the future as I got older and realized that my heart really wasn't in the game of softball as much as it once was. After visits to smaller universities and long talks with head coaches, I had come to realize that playing softball in college and the small school atmosphere wasn't really what I wanted anymore.…

As a sophomore in high school I made my childhood dream come true when I joined the cheerleading squad. I enjoyed the games and assemblies we cheered at, striving to instill as much spirit in the crowd as I possibly could. A few months after I joined, we put on a mini cheer camp in which we taught young girls cheers and choreographed a dance that we performed at a basketball game. Some time after the camp, I remember seeing a few of the girls out in public. The girls ran up to me yelling “cheerleader!”.…

When Professor Danner asked us to take up a task which we are likely to fail at and then write about it, only one thing came to my mind – getting on the Squash Varsity Team. Before I detail what I learned during my rather arduous journey, I’d like to give some background on my abilities in this game and why this was an appropriate choice for this particular assignment. I started playing squash when I was ten years old. This is actually a few years earlier than when most people, who go on to become professionals, start playing the game. Within a few months I become considerably good at the game (in my coach’s opinion) and started enjoying it so much that I was sure that this was what I wanted to play for the rest of my life.…
