Personal Narrative: Changing The Playing Field

Superior Essays
Changing the Playing Field It’s go time. We take the field and get ready to throw down. Everyone is prepared to offer their best effort to the challenging task at hand. Every last ounce of energy is about to be expended, so hopefully everyone has been saving it up. We start and the pace is immediately quick. Everyone is on their toes, making sure to avoid the people coming at them. Each move must be as precise and accurate as human error can allow. Muscles burn and oxygen seems to be depleting hastily, but we go on pushing ourselves, up until the final second. I have to keep my head up to ensure I don’t miss a step, because if I do, disaster is sure to strike. We release the final push and leave ourselves gasping for air. Our time on the field has come to an end. Whether we won or not, we’re satisfied because we left everything on the field, and no feeling is superior. This is bigger than me. This is bigger than the people next to me, or my friends, or anyone participating. This is marching band. Marching band may not appear that exhausting, but all …show more content…
My strong belief that sports were so much better than music slowly began to fade. I fell in love with the late Tuesday night practices, constantly repping set after set until my feet were essentially on autopilot. Friday nights swiftly became what I would look forward to at the end of the week, as opposed to weekends. Supporting the football team while having a great time in the stands seems to me the most preeminent way to spend a night. Saturday competitions brought me to life because that was when everyone was there to support us. The stadiums would erupt into mammoth applause as the colossal red flag passed over the band as we hit the last chord. We were the main show and it was time for us to showcase our hard work. Basketball slowly became my secondary activity. I was a band kid, and I was certainly not ashamed of

It’s in the bottom of the seventh; your team is down by one, bases loaded. Your team is in the meat of the lineup, and you're up next. As you step out of the dugout, you take a deep breath, and you can smell the fresh popcorn and grilled burgers. You can feel the tension from both teams, each earnestly wanting to take the win home. You’re slowly making your way up to the plate, and you're hearing the faint cheers from the fans.…

When I grow up, I want to change the world! Changing the world one day would make me feel really good. Three ways I would change the world are: make sure everyone has a shelter to live in; help more lost, sick, and hurt animals, and make sure no one is hungry. I would like to help homeless people have a nice place to stay. When I’m driving downtown I see a lot of homeless people on the streets; dirty, and sad.…

When I see the other team on the other side of the field butterflies form in my stomach, but then I look back at my team and know that we will not be defeated since we have something that most teams don’t have, a bond that can’t be broken, we are a family. The night begins with a kick and cheering all around, giving the team excitement and a boost of energy. When we kick the ball it goes all the way to the 20 yard line and the other team could only make it to the 26 yard line. Our defense runs out onto the field to put a halt on the offenses schemes, While I watch I feel the cool air run down my spine again, It makes me shake.…

The norm may not always be the right way to go. I no longer want to be a part of a popular or important group of people, if I feel that what the group is doing or believes in is wrong, even if it means I'm not a part of the norm. I am not afraid to stand out on my own. I have challenged this belief for many years. When I was in elementary school, I was bullied by a group of girls that I hung with, looked up to and idolized.…

September 23, 2014.I stood on the football field trembling between two of my fellow band members as the announcer proclaimed “Is the Parkway South band ready to perform?” As I stood there on the field at my first marching band competition, despite every runthrough, practice, set, and note we had gone over I was still nervous and I still didn’t see the point. I moved my feet along to the multitude of drill sets we had learned, I played the notes as we had practiced, but I still wasn’t engaged in the performance. When we finished I was more relieved to be off the field and have finally finished our show than I was proud or concerned of our band’s, or my own performance. However during my years in band, set by set, beat by beat, note by note, two years later at our last competition I walked off the field swelling with pride at what was the climax of both our band’s three months of dedication and hard work and my personal accomplishment and development as a…
