Personal Narrative: Changing My Life

Improved Essays
Around the time of 1100 A.D there lived a wise monk. Though no one remembers his name, they do remember his words. His words can still be found within the halls of wisdom to this day and are sure to echo there in another 1000 years from now. These were his words,

"When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world.

I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation.

When I found I couldn't change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn't change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family.

Now, as an old man, I realise the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realise that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world.”

This wise old monk realised one of the key secrets of life - change yourself and the world changes around you. Or better still; change your focus about life and life changes.

He focused on himself. He never tried to change others; he simply focused on allowing himself to be who he naturally was.

Wisdom is ‘the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement; the quality of being wise’. It is the art of seeing a bigger picture.

This wisdom that Gandhi applied was a realisation, that he could not simply transform the indian nation, So he simply became himself, focused on himself and made himself the best him he could be. I believe we should follow this, try to become the best you, that you can be, and who knows maybe it’ll make an impact in our life, make it a better life, and even effect those around us.

A way we can make a change in our lives is by changing our perspective. The way we see the world around us, our outlook on life, and by changing our perspective we can change the way we

First Stone Analysis Essay A human’s potential to change is incomprehensible; it could either elevate or degrade a person. When a major change occurs in one’s life, it completely changes one’s character, attitude and perspective. This essay will be using the book First Stone by Don Aker as an academic reference. The book shows the potential of change in a very dignified of ways which helped develop my own opinion on the concept of the potential of change. In the play "Master Harold" and the boys by Athol Fugard; in the speech "Hope, Despair, and Memory" by Elie Wiesel, they each had the outlook of finding someone who could possible change the world. Ideas or hints are given through parallel structure and repetition in both stories. The thought of having to find a person who changes the world isn't that bad, maybe the world would be better off not having to deal with poverty, domestic violence, and genocide. If everyone could I bet that they would want to change the world as well, there's a lot of bad happening, good things are happening but they don't last long.…

Some may say it is because of lack of knowledge or easy access to new age technology and because of it we are just simply dumb. Others argue that it is not that we are dumb, but that our generation is changing, we learn differently and that it is not a lack in ourselves, but a lack in our education system. This generation is not dumb, it is simply a lack in our education system and changes in generations. The essays "The Dumbest Generation" and "Meet the Twixters" both intensely acknowledge the difference in today 's youth with a fact that new age technology and lacks in different education systems has had a…
