Personal Narrative: Changing My Career

Decent Essays
My response to this selection is that Hornak made right decision, even though it took her long time to realize, but it would be hard for me If I were to change my career. It would be hard for me because I know I spent a lot time to study and it costs me a lot too. But I personally believe that we all need money, but I would also want to pick the major that I would enjoy in and which would make me proud. For instance, I like to help others and I also like money so I chose Nursing as a my major because in Nursing I would be able to make enough money for me and my family. Therefore, whatever you pick pick it wisely so at the end moment you don’t have to regret and your time and money will not be wasted. I love luxurious life too where I have everything

My favorite job by far has been my internship as a career mentor in the Office of Career Development at my school. As a career mentor, my primary duties are to help students with resume/cover letters, job/internship search and just general life goals questions. This internship has made realize why I love working with students. It’s such a great feeling when a student comes and they may be confused about their major or how to make a resume for a job; but by the end of the your time with them, you just see this light bulb go off in their head and they have this look of “I understand”. Even though it may be a very small interaction, I feel like I have made a small difference in their lives and I have helped them somehow.…

At this culmination stage, I have mixed feelings toward leaving my placement site. I am looking forward to the future and starting my career in human rehabilitation services, but also feel sad to leave the Mercy Centre and the clients. It will also be difficult to say goodbye to the staff, as I have developed close relationships with them. They were extremely welcoming when I first entered the Mercy Centre and learned so much from them about working with this population and about creating a positive work environment. During our breaks and lunchtime, we have become friendly and it is hard to not see these people anymore.…

The assessments I took throughout this course have enlightened me to things I previously had not known about myself. Results showed that my main work value is achievement. This outcome does not surprise me as I have always felt a strong desire to finish the task at hand and feel as if I accomplished what I had set out to do. Career interest assessment results showed that Health Information would possibly be a good fit for me. Which did not surprise me as I had originally chosen Health Information Technologies as my intended major.…

Deciding the career you want to perform for the rest of your life is a stressful and unnerving one. At age eighteen we are forced to determine what we will do for the rest of our life. Personally this was not an easy decision for me, but with the help of my parents, peers, mentors, and contact through Bee Connection, I know I made the right decision picking accounting. By conversing with Breann Thompson I received the right advice about what to do in college so I can succeed like her. To begin, Breann works in the accounting department at Caterpillar since 2006.…

As I was walking into the Career Center, I heard Mr. Railey tell Tyler, who was a few steps ahead of me in the hall, to take his hat off. Tyler removed his hat and acted as if he was going to throw it to the ground, but instead of throwing his hat he ended up putting it back on his head. Later in class, after Mrs. Linzey was done taking attendance, she asked Tyler to take off his sunglasses. Tyler did not immediately take off his glasses and even began to mumble things under his breath. I believe he took the sunglasses off eventually, but he gave Mrs. Linzey attitude about it and then headed to the shop.…

If writing was a meadow of delicate wild flowers on a shinnying spring day than spelling would be the prickly weed hiding low amongst the flora to sting the unwary. At age ten I was an enthusiastic reader. I’d read anything from science fiction and fantasy to nonfiction nature journals. Much of that enthusiasm came from my mother’s love of literature and her joy at having daughter who wanted to be as bookish as she was. Little did I know at the time that despite mom’s pride in my bookworm tendencies in her aspect as a home school mom she was very concerned with the problem of my bramble patch handwriting and untamed spelling.…

Veterinarian, welder, lawyer, teacher, nurse, the choices are endless and it was extremely difficult to settle on just one. As high school graduation day rapidly approached, I felt pressured and hurried to make a decision on what I wanted to be when I “grew up”. Little did I know that it would be none of those, but instead, a career more difficult and strenuous, petroleum engineering. Growing up, my three siblings and I always had what we needed; however, rarely did we get what we wanted because the combined income of my parents was shy of just $50,000 a year. The simple environment I grew up in influenced my career field choice greatly as I never wanted to worry about the financial aspect of life.…
