On Tuesday, 03/22/2016, at approximately 16:56 hours, I, Deputy Stacy Stark #1815 was dispatched to the Murphysboro Police Department lobby to speak to a victim reporting a battery.

I arrived on scene at 16:58 hours. I met with the victim, Janie L. Brown (F/W, DOB: 02/03/1975). Janie stated she wanted to report that she was battered by her husband, Joseph D. Brown (M/B, DOB: 08/10/1961) yesterday evening. Janie said the incident occurred at the parking lot of the All Hours Auto Repair located at the end of Ruth Ln., Murphysboro, IL on Monday, 03/21/2016. Later, I learned the address to the auto repair shop was 141 Ruth Ln. Murphysboro, IL. Janie stated she and Joseph had been verbally arguing off and on all day. At approximately

On Tuesday, 03/22/2016, Janie stated she and Joseph were having a verbal argument and Joseph called the police. Joseph called the police so she would get arrested on the Jackson County warrant. Janie was arrested on the warrant and posted bond. Janie then went to the Murphysboro Police Department to report the domestic battery.

I took a series of photographs. I gave Janie a copy of the Written Statement and Explanation of Rights and the Illinois Domestic Violence Act Victim Information. (See attached acknowledgement form). Janie stated she would complete a voluntary written statement and drop it off at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. Janie stated she wanted to sign a complaint against Joseph Brown, but I advised Janie I would complete a report it and submit it to the Jackson County States Attorney’s

Murphysboro, IL. Upon arrival, I approached a male subject outside the business wearing attire suited for a mechanic. I asked him if I Chasity Clover or Jessie Raymond was available. The male subject stated he was Jessie. I informed him why I there. Jessie stated he did not witness the domestic battery. He and Chasity were inside the garage when Janie and Joseph arrived. Jesse stated he could hear arguing and walked out to the parking lot. Jesse stated it appeared as though Janie was punched by Joseph but he did not witness it. Since he heard arguing and walked outside to find only the two of them, he observed the injury to Janie’s eye and assumed Joseph hit her.
