When I was younger, there was never a dull moment down the block on the street where my best friend Sylvester lived, better known as “Captain Sly”. There were two factions on the block that constantly battled for control of our meager living space. The Pirates, us, and the Knights, them. The Pirates consisted of Sly and I, as well as our friends Mason and Oliver. On the other hand, the Knights were composed of Sly’s little brother Loki, a kid named Jimmy, his little brother Sylas, and Cameron from Wales. It was summertime, and I was probably about ten or eleven. I was over at Sly’s house, and we were sharpening our skills with a classic battle of wits and reaction with Nerf guns. We did this often, sometimes we all put thumb tacks in the dart heads to make them especially deadly. As we were playing, we caught wind of an attack that was soon to happen from the Knights. Quickly, we rallied Oliver, and since Mason wasn’t home, it was just us three. We stepped out back, planning on entering Sly’s tree house as a defensive measure - however, there was a problem. Sly’s mother had a large garden out back, and this meant she also had a large garden hose. This garden hose had a special nozzle on it, the kind you could use to control the stream of water and the pressure of it. We had the perfect tool to destroy the wasps, we needed only to set the plan in motion, and that’s what we set out to

A simple fellow, but, I'm afraid, like all his race, a bit of a savage."…

Shaking The Captain’s Hand It was the middle of June, and I had just taken my CDA (Child Development Associates) exam. This exam was so important to me because it meant moving up to a higher position on my job as childcare professional. I had to work the next day, so I did not have time to even think about the test results. I was called to the office to speak with my childcare trainer. I thought she had observed me doing something wrong in the classroom, because that is usually the case when you are called to the training office.…

Over the years and years spent on studying mythology, Joseph Campbell came up with the concept of The Hero’s Journey. The Hero’s Journey states that all hero’s travel in a similar path and go through many similar stages that’ll lead them to their reward. However, not every hero’s journey has to involve obstacles as in slaying a dragon or trying to save the world. In my case, I had to do nothing but trying to make it through sixth grade year. Sadly, sixth grade was the year that I faced the most challenges, real world challenges at least.…

I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…
