Personal Narrative: Building The Pyramids

I am a sample size of 20 in every 100 Americans who go through the monster I experience, and am trying to overcome everyday (Psychology Today). 20% seems to be a low number considering it has been around since the Egyptian time period (Konnikova). Literally this monster has been around since the beginning of time, and even they had a struggle when building the pyramids. This monster I call is a race against the clock, a ticking time bomb that adds extra pressure that is not necessary. As we speak I am typing this paper at the last minute racing to get it in to turnitin.com by midnight. I have no clue why I do what I do, but it gives me the extra swagger to feel ahead of the pack. When I type papers, and homework at the last minute I feel like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible on whether to cut the red or green wire. Maybe some people were just born to work under pressure. …show more content…
In early elementary school and in middle school I was the good noodle, gold star, grade A student. Do not get me wrong I still am, just not on the same level. I always used to do my homework right when I got home to give me extra time to do what I would like to do. On the flip side now I do what I want to do, and put off my homework to usually doing it at school knowing I can get it done there. The problem attributed to this might be our peers, and who we hang out with. Granted I know my friends procrastinate as well, and there was no better example to that then chemistry last year. Our lab group would not really get anything accomplished, and it wouldn’t show in my grades, because I basically taught them how to do everything, but it was stressful. It was like comparing apples to bananas when it came to figuring out how to solve problems in that

I still remember when I was seven years old and how my grandpa would come visit my grandma once or twice a week. I would be so happy to see him because he would always call me over and sit me down next to him so that we could watch the history channel together. We would sit there for hours and watch documentaries on everything imaginable. One documentary that I will never forget is one that we watched that was talking about how the Romans built the Colosseum and their aqueducts. That was when I first realized that I liked designing and how I liked seeing how buildings were designed and built.…

More importantly, why do I always procrastinate? When students procrastinate, they are deliberately participating in a behavioral problem which “involves delaying a task which needs to be accomplished” not just for homework assignments, but for any task involving school work such as studying (Asikhia). As the semester comes to an end, students find themselves…

During my first years as a high school student, I usually procrastinate on my assignments because I couldn’t balance the workload between my most challenging classes, which was my Honors English class and my AP European class. As a result, I end up having to choose between them as to what assignment I have enough time to do. That school year was one of the hardest for me. I was able to stay on track and handle my workload by writing down everything I had to do. To-do lists were very helpful for me…

It is so intricate but yet so incomplete. My great grandfather had a dream to build a magnificent structure in Rome. The first appearance of my procrastination was in 7th grade with my history class at the time. I was not fond the teacher in that class, so I would put off the work, and lie about forgetting it at home. With my other classes I was doing the schoolwork, but I just shirked the homework for my history class. The late homework in that class just kept piling up. Eventually, it reached the point where my late work was in, but the newer work was still being put off.…

In Charles Duhigg’s book The Power of Habit, he asserts people can understand and change personal habits. Duhigg backs this claim with a description of the so-called habit loop composed of a cue, routine, and reward, pointing out the cues start habits and rewards signal the brain to remember routines. The author's purpose is to give information about habit loops people so they can understand how habits work and thus change them. With Duhigg’s insight about habits, students can stop the bad habit of procrastination, which is the habit of delaying assignments until the last minute. In particular, students should “recognize which craving is the driving behavior” of procrastination and change it as a first step to stop (50).…

Throughout this year I have been your student nearly all of it, during which you gave us multiple assignments to complete. Three of the documents that are especially prominent in my mind are: the Advertisement Analysis, the Movie Review, and the Personal Narrative. The Advertisement Analysis is the assignment where we chose similar advertisements and compared them to find similarities and differences between them. The Movie Review is the review where we watched the movie Macbeth and criticized it using sources from outside sources. Then the Personal Narrative is the paper where we chose a significant moment of our life and wrote an in-depth synopsis about that duration of time.…

You may be asking yourself, why should we care about self-esteem levels? Well if you have ever put off a task to the last minute, you may have experienced a dip in your self-esteem levels; or perhaps you put it off because your self-esteem level was already low. In this paper I discuss the link between self-handicapping in individuals with low self-esteem and procrastination. Although people with high self-esteem also self-handicap and procrastinate, the impact on persons with low self-esteem that were studied had substantially more negative effects. Human beings want to feel good about themselves (self-enhancement) as well as having the desire to have consistent information, or wanting the world to make sense [(self-consistency)…
