My astronaut headphones screaming into my ears, impelling me to steal victory from the Wildcats. The clock struck the 6 and it was time to stand on top of the block . Although the 53 seconds felt like an hour, I was able to take home 1st place for 100 Yard Free.
The first few meets that Buffalo Grove High School participated in, victory did not seem like a possibility. Fortunately, with intense training from our new coaches and Leadership

Looking back on it, on how I got to where I am. I don't know how i did it, when you run into something ,with the power to knock you down- you get back up! I've considered myself a sort of mellow guy, but I can be very intense. It's funny because you can't tell by looking at me. Most people say they can't read me, but I think i am a fairly simple guy.…

My high school community is unique and incredible in that it is inclusive. It was the best decision of my life to attend Xaverian Brothers High school, despite what failures I encountered. Entering high school my grandmother had just passed away and my family was in a large feud; I was lost and had no confidence. The community my high school established allowed me to find my niche and gain confidence. I discovered in high school that I am a service oriented and extremely driven student.…

Fairfield Central High is a school located in a low-income district, in which the minority of this nation represent the majority of its student body. Unfortunately, outsiders of the community have negative connotations about the school and its surrounding environment. The outsiders perceive Fairfield Central High to be a school embodying incompetent children who are only capable of outstanding athletic abilities instead of being efficient students like their neighboring Richard Winn Academy peers. They perceive Fairfield Central High students to be drug dealers, gang members, and teenage parents due to the low graduation and test score percentages in the past years. The news showcasing Fairfield Central High in its worst aspects does not help…

“Let’s go you can do this, finish strong, you are almost there!” Is what I would yell as my teammates strived towards the gold medal. Before participating in track and field I lived inside of a shell, because I was very shy and timid. I had zero experience in track and field, and wanted to be someone outside of an introvert. Being a part of track and field allowed me to develop my personality of leadership.…

So I had decided to try out for the basketball team.…

Throughout the first two and a half years on my school's crew team, we had a culture that had more of a social agenda than of driven competitive one, we had coaches come and go, and the overall atmosphere was inconsistent and without purpose. Individuals interest varied greatly and there lacked a vision, but overall people were satisfied with the status quo. The reality was we were 30 boys in the desert trying to keep up with well established, financed, and consistently coached teams. In order to break this cycle, a dramatic change to our culture would have to occur. Unbeknownst to the team, that transition was about to take place.…
