Personal Narrative: Breaking My Nose

Decent Essays
Breaking my nose playing baseball is my worst memory of ever playing the sport. It hurt like nothing I’ve ever felt before, and I didn’t even know what happened. At first, I had no clue what had happened. When I was ten, I signed up to play for my first select baseball team. They were from Waterloo and called the Blue Diamonds. I was only okay with playing for them because my friend Sam played with me. They had the tryouts in August, and we both made the team. We were a pretty good team and we had multiple wins. Towards the end of the season, we played Red Bud. They weren’t any good, and we were winning by three. In the fifth, I had gotten walked on four straight balls and stole my way to third. Coach Seeders gave me the go ahead to steal

My very first baseball game I can remember it like it was yesterday. A hot sunny day Burning the pavement, the heat beating down on our car as we drive to downtown Houston. After three exhausting hours and two tire blowouts we finally arrived at Minute Maid Park the home of the Houston Astros, my first baseball game. Once we got past the security line we were free to go to our seats which were located in the middle of first and home. We got there about half an hour before the game started so the batters were out in the batting cage crushing the ball with a mighty swing, I was hypnotized by how gracefully they moved their…

The pain began slowly, pricking me with its sharp needles only while doing barre in ballet once a week. I ignored it, believing it to be normal, common discomfort that would soon go away, typical thoughts of a dancer whose entire sport is centered around “good pain”. Six months later, it had escalated to the degree that every step I took felt like an arrow to my knee. Dancing had become impossible, and it was determined that I should be taken to the orthopedist. The bland, brown and beige lobby became extraordinarily familiar as I waited two hours to be examined.…

Those 15 kids playing on that team became some of my bestest friends and greatest teammates to have. Most of them ended up being with me until we couldn't play khoury league anymore, and then only about 3 or 5 of them played school ball with me.…
