As I pulled into the park on a Friday evening, the sun glistened off of the metal handlebars lining the top of the skateboard area. Parents pulled into the parking lot with barely enough time to shift into park when their children eagerly thrust the door open and sprint towards the wooden entrance. The ground teetered as I walked in with young children not even reaching my waist rush in to claim their rightful throne on the swings. One child peeks their head from the top of the slide, exclaiming “Hello” and “Holla” to anyone who might hear him from such a massive heights. She still has Braum’s chocolate ice cream smeared on her face that could be mistaken for dirt. All of the age groups are represented in this single park: the two middle-schoolers

Last spring my organic seed supplier had a special on pie pumpkin seeds. Naturally, I decided to grow pie pumpkins for the first year ever. The five vines I planted produced over 100 pounds of pie pumpkins. This left me with a problem: I can only eat so many pumpkin pies. I can only give my neighbors and friends so many pumpkin pies.…

In "Hey! Parents, Leave Those Kids Alone. “Hana Rosin shares her views on the overprotective behaviour of parents towards their children and its effects on the development of the kids. The author starts by explaining about old age adventure playgrounds and their significance in making a child aware of the risks and dangers involved while doing any fun task independently. She emphasises on the thought by giving views of a landscape architect, according to which, playgrounds should be designed in such a way “that kids could move around and manipulate to create their own makeshift structures.” (Rosin, 77).…

“Can a Playground Be Too Safe?” by John Tierney John Tierney quoted Henry Stern “I grew up on the monkey bars in Fort Tryon Park, and I never forgot how good it felt to get to the top of them” in the beginning of the science column from the New York Times which begins the argument that with new regulations; playgrounds are not engaging children due to new safety implementations. Consequently, these new safety measures could be posing more harm to children cognitively and physically both now and in the future. Tierney argues that while these new safety implementations appear to be safer, it is directly the opposite because it creates a false sense of security which can lead to more risky behavior and is also less appealing to children.…

I even took 2 years of ceramics classes and an AP 3D art class to better my skill. I like the idea that I can replicate something while making it edible as well. I love working with fondant, gum paste, and modeling chocolate.…

The setting of this story is probably during the early 21st century because Tate’s family owns several computers which before the 21st century were very expensive and not well developed. Tate as we already know lives in Spokane, Washington home to one of the most “biggest, deepest, craziest skate bowl” (5) he believes. The local skate park created a common interest for the children of Spokane. Tate describes his brother as being able to “skate it like he was born on the flip side of the deck” (5). Not only does the skate park have an effect on the teens of Spokane, but also has an effect on one’s character.…

Usually after this was done, we would quietly walk in a single file line down the hallway to the playground. That day, however, it was different. When I opened my eyes, instead of an orderly line of kindergartners, there was one little boy chaotically jumping up and down. As red in the face as a tomato, he seemed to be getting antsier by the second. “Teacher!…

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that an individual child with a desire to gain one Snickers bar, must be prepared to trade no less than three Twix bars. In my household, every bag of fun sized confections was an opportunity for a ridiculous negotiation with a not so ridiculous lesson behind it. When my father loves Snickers just as much as I do, why should he take only one inferior Twix for one Snickers? Critically assessing how much my companion stands to lose versus how much I was willing to pay to get what I want is a skill I have been developing since middle school. Negotiation and debate, human interaction of all kinds have always piqued my interests both academically and recreationally.…

This 3rd nine weeks we did Entrepreneurship, I learned many knowledgeable things about being an entrepreneur in America or in the real world. Our company was Marvelous Mousse, it was a delectable, sweet, and savory dessert made with a graham cracker crumble, mousse, topped with whipped cream and Hershey chocolate shavings. The mousse consists of heavy whipping cream and either chocolate or strawberry syrup. My all around favorite part of the project was making the mousse.…

The Vibrant explosion of an array of colors transcends through windows of our stores as the sun rises. The redolence of fresh food and spices invigorate the crisp, fresh air of the morning; this is the place we call home, where our roots extend deep into the ground to earth and span across continents and nations with the vibration of music, dance, and joy of love and laughter. This is the Hispanic community—my community, which has shaped the very person I am today. Coming from the City of Fort Collins in what is referred to many as the “vanilla Valley” it’s not the place where many would consider a vicinity for a well-established Hispanic community with a vibrant presence. It is that notion that I have been actively working to change and…

A long long time ago there would be children, un-surveillanced by adults, playing in a nearby cool pond on a summers day or playing cops and robbers in the neighborhood streets, but now, Hanna Rosin would argue, there isn’t much that we let our kids do without the constant supervision and “protection” of an adult figure around. We all want to be able to do fun/potentially dangerous things when we are kids and growing up, but often times are stopped by parents because of the negative side effects that may come. Are we being too cautious with our children? With almost physical blinders on for other views, the author makes a great case for us to examine with vivid evidence that relates to all of us in some way, persuading language, and valid points…
