Personal Narrative: Bowen's Mock Trial Team

Improved Essays
Bowen and I have been an inseparable duo for twelve years. We are not afraid to point out each other’s flaws, and we accept each other’s criticism with thoughtfulness and grace. I push him to be more tolerant of others, and he reminds me to think before I speak. At the end of the day, we embrace each other for who we are, weird idiosyncrasies and all. Together, we would make strong tutorial partners.

In high school, I’ve struggled with a slight speech problem, but Bowen convinced me to join my school’s Mock Trial team. Today, as a team leader, I take on major attorney roles. In return, I create classical playlists to foster his appreciation for classical music. I add a cup of extroversion and a pint of witty humor to his usual introverted

The air was gunky. Every breath felt as if I had just inhaled two packs of cigarettes. There was noise all around me, people growing impatient from the long hours of waiting. Finally, my name was called out. As I walked down the long corridor towards the double doors I had an uneasy feeling about the verdict.…

Trace Larson’s Testimony This testimony starts out when I was a young child born from my mother. I was born into a Christian home. The Christian faith was brought up into my life ever since I was born but I never made faith my own until I was most likely either 8th grade or a freshman in high school. I started going to pre-school when I was six, and did not learn very much at all.…

I agree with your post. I also felt that with each state having a myriad of laws that aren’t necessarily congruent with other states, let alone the federal government, would make it difficult if not impossible to have a single court. Therefore, with the way our system is set up, it is a necessity to have a multi-tiered court. When looking at the downside, I hadn’t contemplated the fact of jurisdictional conflict.…

If you had asked any of my peers for a description of who I am, they would have said that I was someone who was shy, and possibly even a bit awkward. This was a personality trait that I had been struggling with throughout the majority of my life. I had grown up as an only child, incessantly feeling out of place among my peers. It wasn’t until the middle of my freshman year of high school that I gained the self-confidence I had only dreamed about.…

It was a small court room, and the room was filled with all sorts of people. I think there were some that was there for court and some were there to hear someone’s sentencing. There was a banner you could see as you walked in at the front of the room that said” Show up, Be honest, and Try”. To my left of the court room there was a jury box with people in it, I thought there was a trial going on, but actually there were two people in orange and I believe the other people were counselors for their program.…

I headed into the courtroom of Judge Thomas Marcelain to observe my first courtroom trial. The trial involved a 31-year-old man named, Daniel Bohanna, of Pataskala. Mr. Bohanna decided to represent himself in his trial for fear of misrepresentation. He was charged with rape, kidnapping, and felonious assault. I have seen footage on T.V. from famous trials and of course seen reenactments from Hollywood, but I have never been to one in person until now.…

It is 7:23 a.m. on a Thursday morning, the pass allowing tardiness to first hour is tucked away in my tattered blue backpack. I sit in my car gazing at the quiet building. I have seven minutes to make it up the staircase, adorned with two lamp posts. I, along with many others, have visited Morgan Federal, the bank across the street, countless times and never realized just what was in the vicinity. A friend who works next door in the courthouse suggested I profile this place and gave the directions: “It’s in the old jail,” as if that was a common reference automatically understood.…

I have a confession to make, I enjoy the practice of Criminal Defense. As a criminal defense attorney, I represent those charged with a crime, whether it's traffic, DWI/DUI, misdemeanor or felony. As per the explanation I have heard from many people, I defend the 'scum of the earth.' Since deciding this was my area of practice as an attorney, I have heard from friends, family and even total strangers that my chosen profession is 'wrong,' 'despicable,' I've even been told what I do is "what's wrong with America. " I try to have a legitimate discussion with these individuals to explain my decision to practice criminal defense.…

I do not think there are defense attorneys that do not work as hard to defend all of their clients because defense attorneys are supposed to defend clients even if they believe they are guilty. At any type of job, you are going work hard with your clients, so I think defense attorneys should work just as hard with their clients even if they have a hard time because they know their client is guilty. Defense attorneys are ethically bound to zealously represent all clients, the guilty as well as the innocent (Morales, San Francisco Criminal Law Blog papa #1). Defense attorney needs to work hard because chances are their clients is not going to tell them if they are guilty or not. If their clients say they are guilty, they could be lying, so…

“What do you want to do when you grow up?” It seems that among the young adults I know who are preparing to enter their college years that many have no idea how to answer this question and the others have such diverse ideas, all of which seem to them to be distinct possibilities but each requiring different education paths. Truly, I seem to be in the minority, as I know exactly what I want to do. I desire a career in criminal justice. Growing up with a parent in law enforcement is often sufficient to turn offspring away from wanting any part of the criminal justice profession.…
