Failure is a teacher, and like all teachers give you lesson. That lesson if different for each person, but my lesson was an especially distinct part of my life. I was in the third grade, and I felt defeated. There was this program called Awana where you memorize Bible verses, and play games. Within the program they had there own competition for kids that can memorize questions, and answers, verses, and the books of the bible. With my sister’s encouragement, I decided to try this competition.. So, studiously I half-heartedly memorized the verses, books, believing that I was bright enough to win. When it was competition day I went on the stage, waiting to tell everyone what I have learned. The buzzing rounds, where I a question is said and who every buzzes in first gets to answer. …show more content…
For the first ten questions I didn’t answer, or buzz. Then there was a question “What books of the bible in the New Testament start with the letter p?” I buzzed, and proudly said “Philippians, Philemon, first Peter, and second Peter.” That was all I said during the entire time period I was on stage. Not only that, but I was ecstatic when the awards were going to be announced, and I expected my name to be called, yet I came home with no awards. Thinking on the ride home, thinking to myself “If I am so talented, then why did I lose.” Pondering I came to a simple conclusion. Talent must not be the key, but diligent was the true key to success. I decided that I would try again next year, and try harder, with more determination. As evidence of my conclusion, I won, and became the Quiz champion for the next three years. As it turned out, determination wasn’t the only lesson I learned from this experience, but I also learned that there was another key to success; perseverance. If you try the first time, and fail try and try and try again until you can

You can learn that failure builds character, creates opportunity, teaches you benefits, instills courage, teaches perseverance, spawns creativity, requires motivation, and most importantly it is acceptable. To many, failure means the opposite of all this. Many would take failure as negativity, a let down, and an unsuccessful occurance. With failure comes opportunity. Opportunity isn't there forever.…

The Devoted I bet most devout Christians and Jews, who follow the Bible, believe their following the Book of Books down to the core , but are they really taking the Bible literally? Imagine living life exactly as the past prophets did. From stoning individuals ,flying to the holy home of the major three religions , Jerusalem and herding sheep ,performing a chicken sacrifice in New York ,to getting someone to take a house call and come inspect your whole wardrobe for anything containing “mixed fabric”. You can take what the average Christian/Jew presumes to be absolutely following the word of God and amplify it by 100. That’s how you’d describe A.J Jacobs’ journey in his book, The Year Of Living Biblically: One Man’s Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible .…

As Michael Brown states in What They Don’t Tell you: A Survivor’s Guide to Biblical Studies: a Bible study focuses more on helping people to either understand what God wants in their life or how to be a better Christian. Sometimes Bible study helps solidify theological beliefs, or to develop new theological beliefs. As Brown stated, Bible study is often more of a mid week worship than a scholarly breakdown of the Bible. On the other hand, Biblical study differs from Sunday School because you study more than just the Bible itself. You study the historical context, such as the political climate, economics of the time, laws of the time, etc.…

It says in the book of acts that "and they said, believe on the lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, And thy house" (act 16:31, KJV). Looking back on my passed five years of knowing Jesus I would describe it as a rollercoaster ride. Back in sixith grade I was going through a transition from Crosswalk to Hang time, Elementary School to middle school, and ultimately finding who I was and knowing Jesus. It was my 2011 Hangtime Winter Whiteout when I accepted Jesus into my life. Every year we do this thing called " Cry Night " that Winter Whiteout in particular we watched clips from "The Passion of Christ " and it was to the song " How He Loves " by David Crowder.…

There are many stories told in my family. Anyone and everyone told them, some nights it would be my mom and other nights it would be my grandpa. There would always be two stories read; the first one would be from a book called “My Book of Bible Stories”. This book has so many pictures asks questions has descriptive words and is still one of my favorite books. After that story whoever was telling the story would make up a silly story usually about a blue or green man with a giraffe that went traveling and exploring (I have no clue why).…

“Our enemies have made the mistake that America’s enemies always make. They saw liberty and thought they saw weakness. And now, they see defeat.” George W. I find myself fascinated listening to this man. I sit here amongst a crowd of hundreds of men, women, and children. We are all amazed at the knowledge that he speaks. The man changes his tone and compares himself the bread that fell from heaven and the water that came from the rock. The rabbi next to me is angrily talking to me as if I did something wrong.…

Throughout my life, I lived in an Atheist household within a Hispanic and Asian community called Monterey Park. During high school, I swam diligently for four years and served as varsity captain for my last two years. Although swim-captains formed strong relationships with their coaches, I created an uneasy acquaintance with my coach. After each swim meet, my coach complimented my time improvement. I thanked him, but I continued to convince myself that I'd disappoint him when I couldn't improve anymore.…

Winston Churchill once said “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” Everyone goes through negative experiences in their lives and it is how they react to such failures that determines their character. Just like everyone else in the world, I have gone through my fair share of failures. One being that I was not accepted into my schools freshman mentoring program during my junior year. The freshman mentoring program consists of a group of upperclassman guiding incoming freshman as smoothly through their first year as possible.…

Everyone has a different perspective and interpretation about failure. Some people see failure as an unpleasant thing or a limitation of their capabilities, while others see failure as a learning opportunity or a guide on how to become better. For example, in the article, “Want to Get Into College? Learn to Fail,” the author, Angel B. Perez, implies that failure should not be feared because it is not as harmful as most people think it is. He points out that failure is necessary if we want to succeed in college and in life.…

The four Gospels of the New Testament portray Jesus very humanly. They are biographies of Jesus’ life from Nazareth to Bethlehem. The purpose of the Gospels is to share the news of Jesus, His birth, His life, His teachings, His death, and His resurrection. Within all four Gospels, He is portrayed as many leaders, kings, and saviors, although, after reading all four, He is one with all, He is Christ. Three of the four Gospels are considered to be the synoptic gospels, because in the end they paint Jesus very similarly.…

Once a week, I meet up with my friend Michael to talk about some of the bigger ideas that seem to consume the great majority of my thoughts. Our bonfire chats generally last until 9 or 10 PM, just in time for me to catch some of the George Noory show on my way home. How can you not love a talk radio show devoted to aliens and conspiracies? The other night, however, 1290 AM was not coming in too great, so I scanned the dial and stumbled upon a voice that could only be that of a Christian preacher.…

Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what lessons did you learn? Failure is not unusual but having the courage to get back up and fight for what I believe in is indeed unusual. Much earlier in my studies, I have surmounted tremendous hardship which caused me to drop out of college. I have migrated to America in the early 2000s with my family seeking a better life because my country did not have much to offer.…
