Personal Narrative: Blue Ridge

Blue Ridge Journey “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?” I asked. My family went to Harrisonburg so we could go camping in a cabin. It was a hot summer August day. “Look! Look!” My siblings all yelled one after the other. Out the car window you could see the ancient blue-capped mountains. The mountains were so blue they looked like a picture with a blue filter. We stopped at an aged brick tavern my dad went to when he was in college. It was magnificent, but the food was stuff like what people ate in Colonial Williamsburg. It had guns that date back to about 1865. There were also bullets that were shot in the Civil War period. The last store was a merchandise store. It had lots of cool but old fashion stuff. Old fashioned candy, journals, quills, ink, pins, and many more things. It was absolutely amazing. We weren’t even arrived to the cabin yet!
When we got to our cabin, we took a look around. There was a chicken coop, a barn, and a very large puddle that we called the “little lake”. It was so beautiful! “OH! AH!” I kept

It was relaxing. When our time ran out, we left the cabin with heavy hearts, wishing to stay longer. On the way home, we stopped at a unique zoo. What made it unique is that you drive through the zoo in you car and feed animals. We rented a trolley and fed bison, elk, llamas, camels, and small deer. We got to see a baby zebra that was born that day! It was so cute. Then we toured the walking part of the zoo. We fed little birds that landed on you for food and only if you had food. We also saw kangaroo, ring-tailed lemurs, giraffes, and many more animals. Then it was time to go home. I knew that we will go back to Harrisonburg because it was so

Over summer I went with some friends to the Johnson Shut-ins in Missouri. It was the first time I went camping in years and it was one of the coolest trips I’ve ever been on. It started with the drive which was about two and a half hours through isolated roads which eventually got kind of creepy because we were in the middle of nowhere, every house had confederate flags posted, and we were running out of gas. We finally found the place and found our campground and we wanted to find out what the shut-ins were exactly. It was on the other side of the campground…

It was nearing the end of the 5th grade and I started to realize that I wouldn't be going to the same middle school as all of my friends. The administrators came to our school to tell us about middle school and not one of my friends or people I knew said that they would get to Shadow Ridge. They all said that they would go to Rocky Top. I had one person say that they were going to Shadow Ridge. They were one of my best friends.…

President Barack Obama once said “When all American are treated as equal, no matter who they are or who they love, we are all more free.” As a Hispanic LGBTQ American, these words resonated with me. In my exposure to a plethora of cultures, in my personal experience and academic career, I have had the privilege to understand and further appreciate many lifestyles. Through these experiences, my mission: to serve toward compassion and respect, rather than intolerance and isolation, has remained clear. These past 8 years, Obama has been a champion for LGBTQ+ Americans.…

My time at Valley Forge was over, I had been fighting for general George Washington since the summer of 1775 and the victory on April 13 looked so far away because it was only late December, and it was seeming as if a turning point was unlikely. Do I stay and be loyal to my brothers or do I leave and never look back. I had to make my choice very soon, I could have left and the pain of seeing my brothers die , or I could stay and fight for my freedom such as many men had already done. The decision I made was to stay and fight for my country because many men had gotten sick, and I was a faithful servant to my country and I wanted to do what I came to the new world to do which was achieved my freedom .…

In my understanding, that was my command to do. Give selfish treatment to one man but give all credible treatment to the other, who in all shed the same blood fighting. I became deeply distraught by this segregated treatment because of some set value one man has to have just by the color of his skin. In disgust, I still had to do what was meant for me to do. I would work on the black soldiers and a woman named Clara Barton would work on the white soldiers. I grew interest into wanting to know how she felt about this unfair situation, however it was prohibited to step near her or inside the white soldier’s tent.…

November 20th 1990, was the day I started my life at Oak Ridge. The justice system deemed me and my friend Prash to be criminally insane and had sent me to this prison for criminals who are deemed mentally unstable. I took a life of another because my friend Prash told me that person was a terrorist who conspire to harm me. This “Criminal Insane Building” sounds like a frightening place, my lawyer told me it is the only maximum-security health care centre in Ontario and that they would take excellent care of me and my friend. When I entered at Oak Ridge, I saw that this prison only held male prisoners.…

After having fun at Lake Erie, we drove a couple hours to Cedar Lake, India, and then we found the camping grounds. Mom told us we might be there a long while, so we sent up our big ten person tent. Which, really, is only big for 3 people, they must of thought that tem dwarfs could fit in there, not people. The campsite wasn't really that big, but we didn't have to share anything with other campers. We had our own picnic table, and fire pit, and water and electricity.…
