Right away I knew that it wasn’t such a good idea.
After a while it felt like I had hit something.
But I didn’t know what then I slowly started to sink into the water more and more.
I tried and tried but I was getting nowhere it felt like I was flailing.
I was trying to go up but it just brought me to the sides.
Several times I wondered would anyone come save me?
I gave up it was useless slowly my vision got blurry and my head became foggy.
I began to sink even further I could barely see anything.
It felt like clothes were weighing me down and making me sink faster.
I began to run low on air I had to somehow get some air, I was desperate.

I remember my uncle taking my cousins and I to Duns River Falls in Jamaica. At the bottom of the falls he took me from the shallow ends to the deep end, a good area where my head remained above the water if I stood on my tippy toes. My uncle laid his arms underneath me and taught me to relax and float. From time to time he would slowly remove his arms, allowing me to float without his support. I would freak out when I realized that his arms where no longer there holding me.…

I was woken up by the repetitive buzz of my alarm clock. In a daze at 5:07am, I considered hitting the snooze button, but I surrendered to the morning and got out of bed. It was time for swim practice. The bed mercilessly taunts my exhausted limbs to return but my determined heart persuades me to brave the trial by water once more. As I dive over the ice cold pool, dread and regret fill every moment until my body finally makes contact. For two, sometimes three, hours the situation will only worsen as I repeatedly raise my arms above my head and pull back as hard as possible. Weeks of this pass by, all for the sake of being able to travel through 100 meters of water a few milliseconds faster. Swimming has been my primary sport since the age of eight.…
