I am a middle child. I was born two years after my sister Meredith, and Caleigh came six years after me. Within my family and friends, I am known as the quiet, quintessential middle child. For the first 16 years of my life, I was always an afterthought to the craziness of the first-born and the baby of the family, and I loved it‒ it made me independent and self-reliant. I was very comfortable being the easy-going child, happily accepting anything that came my way.…

Imagine a society where intelligence is pre-determined by one’s birth order. An individual’s birth position within a family such as the first-born and the last-born was sufficient to conclude one’s level of intelligence. Just like that, findings were being discovered about the sudden relationship between birth order and intelligence. For example, “first-born children tend to be more verbally articulate, less impulsive, more active, better performers in school, more likely to go to college, and tend to have a greater need to achieve” Therefore, studies have found that earlier-born children tend to score higher on tests of intelligence and aptitude than those born into the family later.…

Influence of Birth Order on Life Introduction Birth order is something no one can change, yet many scholars have tried their best to interpret its many effects on each child’s life. The order in which a child arrives will either crown him or her as the first ruler over the land with undivided attention, the sociable, peacemaker between the young and old, or as the last of the pack just floating through life learning from those before them. No one can chose their path, but throughout life people will come to love their placement or resent it. Their status tends to stick with them all through life and that label will be the reason behind his or her behaviors (Eckstein 61).…
