This was a story of around 2009-10; I was living in Bhutanese refugee camp in Nepal. I was born and raised in refugee camp and lived until I migrated to the U.S. I was only fifteen years old when I graduated form high school. Back in place where I came from, we finished our high school in 10th grade. I was not only first one in my family but in my communities to finished high school. I was so enthusiastic and excited. In the same, an election for community committee chairman was going on. I had little notion of my community structure and how things were happening. Lots of folks were complaining about public office holder that they were doing lots of corruption and taking bribe from people. There were lots of racial and social discrimination going on. I was inspired by friends, teachers, and family to compete for committee chairman seat. Fortunately, I won the competition with god grace and lots of people supports so I was first youngest chairman and first high school degree holder to hold that office. When I came back from meeting, I went out in a tour. I saw lot better community than it used to be. I was glad that I could bring some change but later on I saw lots of people became jobless and many people lost their business. I realized that my sanitation and deforestation project plan brought huge impact on people’s lives. When we did deforestation, many people lost their vegetable gardens, banana trees, and sugarcane plants, mango tress and many more. There was huge jump in price at grocery stores because Bhutanese people could not grow crops and vegetable in their gardens so that they had to depends on Nepalese people and they were starting charging too much money for vegetable. Too many people became sick and too much were waiting in hospital

Rhetorical Reading Response: “Context” In the short story “Context” (1994), written by Dorothy Allison the author writes about the influence that context has when it comes to the judgment of people. Allison does this by using personal scenarios that the reader can emotionally relate to. The author’s purpose is to express the fearful feeling of showing someone the vulnerable truth about how she grew up and where she came from in order to prove that social status can affect how others perceive you. The intended audience is everyone in every society.…

Communication is of essential importance in any workplace, relationship, and gathering, which creates efficient leadership within a group. Towards the closing of my junior year, I was elected to be one of the few student board members to my school’s National Honor Society. Achieving board member status for this renowned society of students is an eye-opening experience. Adapting to the responsibility that a highly respected board member carries of such a prestigious group truly distinguishes differences between the ordinary member and those who collectively lead the organization. From coordinating induction ceremonies for incoming members, to communicating with local providers for community service events, being a representative of…

For the multi-genre project I chose the topic of children refugees. I chose this topic because I believe that every human being was placed on this earth to do something miraculous, that would change the world for the better. My goal is for my readers to understand that life shouldn’t be taken for granted. I believe that if the world comes together as one, these refugees will no longer be seen as outsiders, and they can eventually show the world who they and their gifts.…

As a young kid, I would always go to the cabinets in our kitchen to look for food. Every time the doors opened and I saw the canned green beans alongside the uncooked pasta, my mom upstairs would hear me yell, “we don’t have anything to eat”. Being a kid, you really do not think of anyone but yourself. It isn't that kids are selfish, they just have not been taught the art of selflessness. Kids also are not very grateful for what they have because they do not understand the value and privilege of being able to buy toys, clothing, and food.…

I did not know what to choose or how to choose among the values taught to me, but I knew despite which values I embrace as my own, I would never forget the cultural lesson revealed to me while attending an elementary school in Beijing, China.
