Personal Narrative: Beta Sigma Fraternity

Improved Essays
The most memorable day in my life was when I became a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. First off, I didn’t know anything about becoming a Sigma Beta. I’ve watched plenty of movies that have dealt with fraternities, but it gave me a whole new meaning becoming a member. The requirements for me to become a Beta I wasn’t expecting. That was because all the movies I had watched pertaining to becoming a part of an organization such as this were not the real thing. Just that quickly I became a big brother, someone to look up to, but the most important thing I had become a mentor. Before Joining Phi Beta Sigma, life for me was very ordinary. I was just working faithfully and trying to finish school to become a better person for a …show more content…
One of the things that were very important was how to present yourself in a professional manner as well as learning proper etiquette. During my time as a little brother I’ve made better choices for my future because I had others supporting me and trusting in me to make better decisions than what I’ve made during my time before becoming a big brother. All of the community services and meetings of new people helped me learn more about others than I already knew. I remember the time when I became a “Frat”. A lot of activities were being done. We went out into different communities and did yard work, car washes, and trash pick-up along the streets. There were many people who came out and showed moral support for a group of young black men who took time to do these things out of the kindness of their hearts. Many of us had families that came out and helped put these functions together, so I was very thankful for all the help that was provided for me throughout my time as a Sigma …show more content…
As of this day, all the skills I’ve learned to become the person I am today I still use in everyday life situations. Not knowing these skills made me an even more determined, mature, and professional black male that can carry out all I’ve learned and put it to use to help another person like me who needed that one person who can guide them to do the right thing so that they can help someone else along the way. The knowledge the instilled in me are life materials we can use to plan our lives, buy houses, making a bigger income and last but not least we were taught not to be selfish! Meaning taking time out of our day just to give back to our community. That one main question my big brothers always wanted to know from me was what can I do individually in our community to make it better than what it is now and the answer that I gave when I answered was I wanted to become a Massage Therapist. Because in my neighborhood I see lots of people walking around hurting in pain and I feel like I can really help them with them the profession I chose to work in Massage Therapy. I use to love giving any type of massages when I was younger because I was always getting called to either rub someone’s shoulder, their neck, their leg, back, but my

    1. What about your experience at Quinnipiac thus far prompted you to apply to be an Orientation Leader and why? What makes Quinnipiac different from the rest, is the community it sets forth for its faculty and students. Together we are one and can create a difference in each other’s lives. However, that sense of community could not be achieved through the simple action of blindly participating, but can be shaped through the guidance of our peers into who we are today.…

No one ever told me family could be deceiving and ruin your outlook on life, I had to learn that on my own. Growing up as a young black lady, my perspective on life was always pretty straightforward: treat people how you want to be treated, always have God in your heart, and know that there is so much I could achieve. Those cornerstones got me through most of my life. I had always been a charismatic, bubbly, lovable spirit. I was always the favorite child, family members adored me and saw me as ¨the one who is going to make it”.…

Delta Sigma Theta is a sorority I took keen interest in after doing some profound research. Not only is it a sorority but indeed a sisterhood. The values and driven purpose to which the sorority serves to the African American communities here at home and abroad speaks volumes. I first took an interest with pledging as a teen. I grew up in an era where the Cosby show exemplified the educated black family thus the spin off “A different world” broadcast the image of college life at an HBCU.…

Although you have to be 36 years old to legally become the president of the United States, I feel as if I’ve experienced an aspect of presidency in my fourteenth year of living. Of course, it is obvious that being president of my middle school’s National Junior Honor Society is nowhere near being the president of the United States. But in fact, my experience depicts a quite harrowing and concerning aspect of presidency. In an interwoven city and school, creating close relationships was inevitable.…

Growing up, many of us have obtained some knowledge on greek-letter organizations somehow. Whether we have all seen movies about colleges that are fraternity and sorority based or through social media. They’ve given us a little insight on the college life and if you’re like me, these moves have gotten you inspired and excited for college. They’ve shown us the crazy parties, the popularity, the step battles, and the harsh hazing as well. Even though we see an abundance of what goes on in these organizations, these movies do not give us a full understanding of greek letter organizations.…
