Personal Narrative: Best In Show

Best in Show
Experiences are one of the ways we learn about our world. Specifically, concerts are a place where I see the opportunity to share unique encounters. I’ve been to quite a few concerts in my day, nine concerts, two music festivals, and sixty two artists in total. I love live music because every single person can experience a show differently. It’s like a story that’s created in front of your eyes and dies that night. I have had the opportunity to see some truly magnificent performances, but some concerts can be less than stellar.
I used to be a fan on Twenty One Pilots. I have seen them live twice, but the second time was one of the worst shows I have ever attended. The people at this concert were much younger than I expected.

Music is beautiful in many different ways. I may not listen to letlive. on a daily basis, but by the way the crowd was moving and how we were all emotionally involved, they could change lives with their music. We saw many bands that day, some of them being my favorites or soon to be favorites. I feel that you never get to actually get a band until you have seen them live, because once you see how they interact with their own music, you really get to see them for them, and understand why they're doing this.…

The concert of the music from Appalachia was unique. I enjoyed it a lot for it not only was musically pretty, but there was substance and meaning to the words. These songs were stories of the struggles and triumphs of the people. During the concert, I felt the emotion and the presence of the people and afterwards I felt a sense of gratefulness for all that I have. I imagine the people from Appalachia contributing to the beauty and culture of their community as any other people of a community add to the beauty of theirs.…

Over this week I attended a mishmash of performances. They ranged from good to mixed to awful. Let's start with the good: a fun, entertaining performance of Le Corsaire from ABT. This season at ABT the principal women have been falling like flies due to injury (currently, Isabella Boylston, Veronika Part, Gillian Murphy and Maria Kochetkova are on the DL list). What this has meant is lots of opportunities for soloists, and the 6/8 performance showcased the talents both of veteran soloist Sarah Lane (Gulnare) and the newer Skylar Brandt (Medora).…

Making It to the Big Time I am Vincent Crabtree. When I was a freshman in High School, I participated in an activity called “Winter Percussion”. It was much like marching band, but it took place during the winter and spring season, and it featured a smaller ensemble composed mostly of percussive instruments. Throughout the season, we had practice almost nightly, working to put together a show that would be performed in competition with other drumlines.…

For my second concert report I felt like I enjoyed and appreciated the music more. This was mainly because of all the new concepts I learned from my music appreciation class. At first I was annoyed when I learned that we must do another concert report. However, after attending the concert I was very pleased and had an enjoyable evening. I even fulfilled my desire to personally experience the well-known Gustavo Dudamel…

After an intermission that was probably only ten minutes but felt like an eternity, the lights at the Fillmore Theater in Miami Beach dimmed and the crowd erupted into deafening cheers and whistles as “The Flood Tour” started. The anticipation for the moment everyone in the audience had been waiting for since they bought their ticket is nearly palpable. Finally, the drummer starts, setting the rhythm, followed by the guitarist and bassist until lastly the vocalist starts singing and the fans belt out the lyrics as well. At a live show it is nearly impossible to deny the tangible power music has that goes beyond simple lyrics or chords on a guitar. For some people, music is just background noise to have on while studying, working out, or spending…

On Thursday night I got the chance to see to Taylor Swift live for the second time (I can feel you judging, judgey people - She's amazing & the show is incredible - except for the part where she didn't play Wonderland, but we don't need to talk about that and I'm not even sorry for going.) but each time I see her or any live show I'm left in absolute awe of what I've just experienced, and after experiencing this particular show it got me thinking about what live music is for me and the feeling i'm left with, and I sort of wanted to share that, so here we are. Live Music can be a lot of different things for a lot of different people.…

The emotions expressed by not only the music but by how the musicians looked while playing these pieces made me believe that this show meant a lot to them because they would sway to the music when they weren’t playing. It had my emotions spiral out of control because some of the music was happy then it turned sad in an instance, then it would go right back to something whimsical. It’s not the typical kind of music that I would listen to daily but I am happy that I got to attend this event and hear something that I wouldn’t normally.…

It was very exciting to see these choirs sing with such passion. I also really liked listening to instruments live. I would rather listen to a pipe organ being played live than on a CD too. In my opinion the pipe organ sounds a lot better when it is played live too. This concert allowed me to hear new instruments live, which was a tremendously amazing experience.…
