Over the next several weeks I began to forget about McCallie and cherished the time spent at school with my friends. I arrived home one day too find the trashcans still at the bottom of the driveway. Although it was my sister's turn to take them up, I did not mind the walk and went down to get the trash cans. As I came back up pulling both trash I heard my mom yelling my name. I quickly hurried the rest of the way up the driveway too find my mom standing there with phone in hand. She handed it to me with a smile on her face and said it's for you. Hello I said, wondering who was on the end of the line. Mr. Daughdrill, Immediately responded congratulating me on my early acceptance to McCallie. I thanked him several times before handing the phone back to my mom. After they finished talking, I immediately began to celebrate with my mom. I was ecstatic that I had been accepted this early. As 8th grade year wrapped up I was sad to leave but ready for summer. I spent almost every day golfing or hanging out with my group of friends from school and had an absolute blast. I forgot all about high school for the time being and simply enjoyed the time I had left with my friends. In June I began to receive acceptance letters from surrounding schools, and came home one day too a St. Pius packet laying on the kitchen table. I ripped it open and found an acceptance letter along with information sheets and other pamphlets. This changed everything, I had gotten into my two favorite

It was a normal Tuesday at good ol’ Freeburg Community High School. Our rambunctious lunch group sat around the table to enjoy the lunch of the day, chili. Now you see, I had brought my lunch, but I wasn’t allowing that stop me from enjoying a steaming bowl of chili. My bowl of chili warmed my hands, heart, stomach, my esophagus when it was occasionally too hot, and eventually my lap. Between all of the jokes and laughter I hadn’t noticed that my hands were shaking a tad more than normal; if I had noticed, I would have done the smart thing and set my bowl down rather than hold it.…

At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

My parents have said to work hard and do my best in school. I never understood why until I got older. They both came to the United States looking for what most people come to the United States for ‘The American Dream’, they wanted a place where they could raise their children and find a stable job.…
