Personal Narrative: Best High School Teacher

Improved Essays
Best High school teacher High school was one thing in my life that I did not look forward going to, with boring classes, boring teachers and homework. Every day I would have to be in the same classes for seven hours a day, five days a week, for four years. There was only one class which I looked forward to going. It was a global area studies class taught by Mr. Fields. This subject was definitely not my favorite subject. It did not catch my attention, because I am more of a math student, than anything else. The difference of this class from other classes, is that it was taught by Mr. Fields. Mr. Fields was middle aged, usually with a smile on his face, sometimes crazy and definitely one of the loudest teachers in the school. If you were by his hallway, you …show more content…
Fields would still give us boring book work and maps of Middle East to learn for quizzes. In any other class, I would have been mad about getting bookwork or having to learn the maps. Since, this class was taught by Mr. Fields, who put great effort into it, was funny, entertaining and gave us time to do the work in class, I actually did not care. To me doing work and turning it in, was like showing respect. There were times, when Mr. Fields would become a crazy man, because of the things he disliked. The things that he did not like, were students using their phones or sleeping in his class. When people used their phones or napped, he would get infuriated. Sometimes he would just quit teaching and gives us bookwork to do, since some people were more interested in other things, than him teaching. But crazy for Mr. Fields, did not end here. Sometimes he would get so furious, that a student got kicked out or their desk got kicked. This was definitely a teacher you did not want to get mad. Mr. Fields, was the best teacher of them all. He was well balanced in entertainment, teaching and making us do work. If there is something that I miss about High School, it is Mr. Fields and his

“I want you to come back with a diploma in your hands”, were the words of my 8th grade science teacher. The class was very boring and ordinary compared to the other classes in my middle school. My teacher, Mr. Febris, was the one who taught the science class for 5th period, but boy was I always the first one out the door when the bell rang. There were times when I would tap my pencil continuously like Britney Spears did in her “Hit Me Baby One More Time” music video.…

Section A: One of the primary conflicts in Blade Runner is trying to identify real humans versus “replicants” (this is a challenge both for characters in the film and the film’s viewers). Without an identifier or test to determine who is human, how do we determine what makes a human “human”? Or what makes someone inhuman” (a monster)? How do you think Viktor Frankenstein would answer these questions? When we think of replicants, in movies or in books, we make them in our image.…

Feeling Truly Educated Most teachers just give you a textbook and some notes about that certain subject or unit and then expect you to know it for the quiz or test. But that's not the case with most students, they have to get all the attention of that subject, talk it out with other students get their feedback of what they learned, or even connect the subject with what they love. Which is exactly how I truly learned. Biology 1 and Biology 2 was not my favorite subject nor my best subject in high school.…

When most people think of a history class they imagine sitting in a dark lecture hall taking notes off a PowerPoint presentation, memorizing a few dates and people, repeating it on the test. Truly studying history, I learned, is more than memorization of a previously told story and accepting it as true. In this class I have learned history is about actively engaging the material, picking apart the details and nuances, creating and using timelines, finding deeper meaning in the material, asking questions, then looking again and digging deeper. It is not a passive study and not about memorization as I believed at the beginning of the semester. History is about asking questions and looking for answers, not just accepting what is already there, but…

Throughout this course we have not only gained factual knowledge about East Asia but also a framework that we can use to understand other countries and cultures around the world. To consider ourselves global citizens, we must have an understanding of the world and the way it works. From learning about the history of East Asia, we now have a better understanding of why it works the way it does today, and that makes us less ethnocentric and more empathetic toward others. This course has allowed me the opportunity to grow more as a global citizen, and to see where I have achieved and failed at pushing to see beyond myself and be a more inclusive person. Asides from the overt growth of knowledge about East Asian and its history, I have also gained an appreciation for the past and understanding that we cannot always believe what has been told and retold throughout history.…

The scientific method is a procedure that is used by scientists now and in the past, dating back to the seventeenth century. The scientific method consists of observation, measurement, and experiment, and the creation and testing of hypotheses. There are several steps and different components to the scientific method that will (hopefully) answer the scientists’ questions, by the completion of the experiment. There are countless different reasons as to why a scientist would use the scientific method, but one area of research that is focused on is, biology. Biologists seek to find the answers to further and better understand the processes that occur in living systems.…
