Personal Narrative: Being Out Of School

We all have setbacks from time to time, sometimes even when we like nothing can go wrong, life can take us by surprise. My major setback was out of my control, and it discouraged me for some time. During the middle of my sophomore year, I was in a horrific car accident. I had cuts and bruises, but the main problem was my severe concussion. I had trouble remembering things, and sitting in certain lighting would sometimes be unbearable due to my light sensitivity. It was a long recovery of almost a year, being in and out of the neurologist and my pediatrician. What was hardest for me was not going to school. School has been everything to me, I love to read, write, socialize, and learn new things each day. Being out of school for such an extended period of time was heart wrenching to me. My teachers, guidance counselor, and classmates helped me as much as they could along the way, but to be frank it was difficult coming back to school. …show more content…
I could not have been more excited for my first day back, but that excitement ended quickly as I realized I could not make it through a full day of school. I pushed through until fifth period, made my way down to the nurse, and was sent home from light sensitivity and dizziness. This was my lowest point that I, the girl who loves school, could not even make it through a full day. My doctor had reassured me that I should take my time and come back steadily instead of rushing right into it. I wanted nothing more than to be able to go back to school for a full day and have all my work I needed to do done for the next day, but unfortunately that was not
